Player watch: Danny Rose

Rose has missed 37 Premier League games across 6 different spells on the sidelines over the past 2 seasons. We ain't getting a premium on the back of that.

If Spurs paid £40m with his injury record and age I'd seriously question why that money wasn't invested elsewhere

But if we sold Rose for £20m, you'd question how the hell we'd replace him when that's the going rate for an average plodder.

I wouldn't want Rose sold personally unless there was someone the scouting network had identified as a target and I think £20m is too little. £25m-£30m I'd say but I have to admit, he doesn't seem the same player he was when he really went at the right back. That was his main quality and he seems to have lost that bit of pace that made his main attacking threat unique

A 28 year old LB with fitness issues coming off a rather mediocre season. I'd say 20 + addons would be the absolute best we could hope for if we wanted to sell.
We ain’t selling one of the best LB’s in England for 20m in this inflated market. Especially being HG. Yes he has had a few injuries but most players go through a spell of them. We could just rotate with Davies being first choice.

I think most people on here are there or thereabouts. If we did sell him, we would probably not ever find out the exact fee, but I would think, with Levy, it would be in the order of 25-35m. If he passes the medical, that is, which is a ginormous caveat.

On another note, a quick scan of the interweb and it appears Wolves fans think the fee would be north of 40m with wages of 125k/week.

Would be hard to turn down if we could get Shaw in for around 15mil...

That deal would be part of the Toby deal I guess.
Maybe it'll be cash + Shaw for Toby, rest of the Toby cash goes towards Zaha. Then the Rose cash goes on a new CB. Then Modric on deadline day, well maybe not the Modric part.

If we were ambitious to win the league in the next two seasons, we’d be all over the possibility of bringing in Modric. Best player at World Cup, knows club well, and in the most key position (no. 8) that we need to fill. May be older than Dembele, but his build, style and fitness all more geared to playing at a high-level into his mid-thirties - as evidenced by three consecutive 120 minute appearances in WC, and controlling those games throughout.

But we're told money isn't a problem.

There's always a limit to that. They say 'sell to buy' was due to squad numbers and not budget but its really about not having to sell fringe players on the cheap due to a weakened negotiating position.

I'm sure we'd have pulled the trigger on Grealish if we'd got a couple out of the door before the USA tour.

I don't think selling Rose will open the door for anything other than another left back.

If we really have to sell Rose it better be for more than 25-30, that would be a shocking deal.

45/50m minimum IMO.

I really cannot see the logic in selling him this window, make him wait till next season

Thanks for that. I had no idea. It appears he finished the season for the u23s playing LB. Not that that means anything, but interesting nonetheless.
Turns out he is playing LB today vs AC Milan.

EDIT - beaten to it.

Georgiou playing pretty well at left back for us today

He's definitely not a left back. He was ripped apart (understandably so somewhat) by Sosu on that side. He looks good on the ball and going forwards but he isn't comfortable there positionally, as a tackler or have the strength to make up for it.

Would like to see him more as a LM/LW, or even LWB at the worst, but imo made up to be a LB.
