He was a standout performer tonight against a full strength Barcelona side. Would keep him over Dier at this point, but I guess he’s more of an attractive target so more likely to go. Definitely given Ange something to think about.

From tonight’s performance he showed more composure, pace and timing than Dier. If it’s a choice to get rid of one of them it’s Dier. At least Sanchez can shift!

I've always, always been a big supporter and defender of Dav, because there is a player in him, and he just needs confidence and a run in the right side, and he's shown it to be the case before, most recently when he replaced Romero at the end of Conte's first season to see off the CL run-in, he was absolutely excellent and we didn't even miss Romero.

...but he needs to go. He needs a fresh challenge, because he'll make a mistake again and the fans are just gagging to get on his back all of the time. Getting booed to tears last season was the end for me, and not because of him, who I'd keep and give confidence to above Tanganga and Dier in terms of defensive ability in this side, but because too many of our fans can be total arseholes, and they burned the bridge long ago.

Hopefully this was a great shop window performance for the bloke.

Not really a fan of starting him next to VdV who still needs some experience (although having 2 sprinters would be fun), if we get Schuurs then there's not much room for him. Him playing as LCB rarely works and usually it's quite ugly. But I never blame his attitude or effort, and he's definitely more useful than Dier in this system.

More of a Lo Celso than an N'Dombele when it comes to application but probably still never going to be the level we need.

Hope he gets a move to somewhere that suits him.

I think the criticism from some of Dier tonight has been over the top, but I’d still keep Sanchez before I kept him.

Sanchez is much better suited to this style of play. He’s not going to be our first choice, but as back up he’s fine.

Maybe he mentally gave himself a kick up the arse after our reported attempts to negotiate a deal with Spartak Moscow. I wouldn't wish that rabbit hole upon any of our players - even if, in Davinson's case, he could refuse to go.

He looked perfectly suited to the role, contrasting completely with Eric who looked very uncomfortable.

We're not going to get everything we want this summer so he could be a big boost to our budget if he's deemed useful and asked to stay.

Either way, he did well tonight which warms the cockles.

I'd be happier with Sanchez than Dier v Brentford on the basis of tonight. He looked calm in possession and covered well, considering he was quite exposed.

Yeah in this system pace is so, so important for CBs and you just can't survive if you move like Dier does.

If we have to pick one to stay it has to be Sanchez for that reason alone (although I wouldn't expect many performances like today's if he does stick around).

Would deffo prefer him over dier, but if someone offers money we should take it. I can't see anyone offering money for dier
