The club should tell him that if he stays he won't get any minutes and asks him to find a new club, otherwise we need to negotiate mutual termination of contract as it would be a waste of squad space

It would be pretty shitty for us to do that to one of our longest serving players. Especially as he hasn't done anything to deserve such bad treatment other than wanting to honour the contract that we offered him.

Big Dav has, since his humiliation last season, not put a foot wrong. MoM a couple times.

Talk of 10 mill acceptable for our 40 mill signing seems like superb buy for some club.

Like Gold, I reckon Dav has a role with us and a cheapo deal for him is not the way to go.

Literally, can we have both him and Lo Celso in the squad if Dier stays though? (Even then assuming PEH goes)

Not quite that simple though as he’s a free agent next summer and I don’t really see an extension on the cards. Put it this way - would you pay 10m to loan Davinson Sanchez for a year? That’s effectively what we’d be getting if we turn down a bid.

Doesnt he have 2 yrs left, not 1?

Edit: Wow only 12 mo left. I'd love to keep him but you have to sell if he's not being resigned.

It's like I'm watching the same show on repeat these last few years.

That humiliation last year was a disgrace from our fans, but it didn't come out of the blue and it was not a coincidence that it was leveled at him. As well as the general hostility towards the playing staff and coaches last year, the reaction to him was as much about his repeated sub-par performances under several managers and systems.

A handful of okay performances will not change this. If he stays then there will come an inevitable moment when a ball is played over the top and he loses his balance. Or he'll be left on his arse by a mediocre winger. Or he'll be pressed to oblivion and cost us goals. He might play 10 decent games before it happens, but it will happen and then send him careening down a path destroyed confidence and poor performance.

He's not capable or consistent enough to play for us, and is too weak mentally. He needs to leave for his own sake, and we need him gone for ours.

That said, let's not fuck about and consider Maguire as appropriate backfill for Davo.

He's scar tissue from a previous era of the club. We need him gone.

If you aren't replacing can you sign a better back up CB for 10m? If not what's the point of weakening the team for the sake of 10m.

I saw it the same way with kane. We should have kept him for another year based on what we haven't done to replace him.

Should be dier out first based on team fit.

It’s not weakening the team if we sign a better replacement, and I can’t believe we would sell Dav without bringing someone in, we’re threadbare at CB already.

If for example the choices are pay 10m for one year of Sanchez, or pay 30m for five-six years of Schuurs and probably sell him with two years left and most of that value intact, and if Ange prefers Schuurs anyway, then it is probably the better choice from both a football pov and a financial pov.

Can't see us getting any other CBS in with the time left. Can see how this one works out. Especially when we are being linked with Harry fucking Maguire

If he goes I hope we promote Philips and Dorrington to joint 4th & 5th choice and ofc sign another CB (Tosin etc) as our 3rd choice, but I don’t want to see Davies play LCB in a back 4 and I don’t want to see Dier as our 4th choice, far rather we kept Sanchez and sold Dier.

If it was out of Dav and Dier , I’d chose Dav to stay all day. Dier will offer nothing in this new era. If we are selling Dav just so we can make a little money, this will weaken our defence for sure.

If you'd made this post a couple of months ago it would've got a ton of positive ratings.

Sanchez is riding the wave of a couple of good performances (happens every year) and he does look well suited to Ange's system, but with 1 year left on his contract if we can get money for him he needs to be sold, and we need to invest in a new 3rd choice CB.

As soon as Romero gets injured/suspended and Sanchez has to play a run of games the knives will be out for him again when the mistakes inevitably start creeping in.

Lovely guy but he needs to go.

It should be both of them out along with Tanganga.

Sanchez needs a move and even if he doesn't there is no way he is renewing and we would be mad to do so, may as well get him out now for a small fee.

Eric Dier is totally unsuited to this system and is eyeing up a free to so rather than him taking up a squad space let's get him a sale (preferably) or a loan and Tanganga's development has been massively hindered because he never plays. Now he absolutely has to play week in and week out.

So three out and it should be two in, preferably younger ones who can compete/develop/cover under the two lads who are currently doing superbly at centre back

And when his contract runs out next summer, he will generate zero money for his replacement.
We need another CB better than Dier/Sanchez/Tanganga, which requires that we move some of them on.
So we need to sell whoever of them that we can IMO, even if I also would prefer to sell Dier before Sanchez.

If we sell Davinson that is a start, it's no good everyone shouting we must move out our CB's and then moaning we should sell them in a certain order. If we are left with Dier this year it means we'd have cleared the decks by next summer, if we do it the other way round we'd still have Sanchez here and have to try to shift him but maybe still have him the year after.
We ain't going to complete the rebuild in one window so managing the process is essential.

He’s only got a year left too on his contract I think
