Yedlin trains, expected to start Open Cup tomorrow; “We think everything will be finished and done”
Post by Don Ruiz / The News Tribune on Aug. 12, 2014 at 11:53 am with No Comments »
Sounders FC homegrown All-Star right back DeAndre Yedlin was back at Sounders training today. Coach Sigi Schmid was asked his status.

“He was out here, he trained with us today,” Schmid said. “We think everything will be finished and done, so our expectation is that he will start for us tomorrow.”

Schmid deferred to the Sounders’ front office for expanding on what will be finished and when it will be done. However, the expectation is that he means the club is pretty much down to the dotting of i’s and crossing of t’s on Yedlin’s expected transfer to Tottenham Hotspur — although no such details came from the club today, and there was no indication of an immediate announcement as nighttime already has arrived in London.

I'm 95% sure he's getting loaned back but

1. We think Walker will be back in a month but we've heard stuff like that from the club before
2. By all accounts Yedlin is eager to get to Europe

Those two points are why I'm not yet 100% sure he's getting loaned back to Seattle. Hopefully we can put all this to rest tomorrow.
It would make sense because their season finishes in October but the post-season runs through til December. Better for him to play for his home town team and have time in England before joining up in January than coming now and missing out on game time by being an understudy.

I just don't understand some guys. He's playing for Seattle tomorrow and every single story and every single bit of ITK says he's going back there until January yet some people still don't believe it.

Why would he play for Seattle if he's staying with us?
Who said he is staying with us? You are jumping to conclusions again.
I said the delay in announcing his transfer may be to do with the Naughton transfer. I may be wrong.
Naughton may not be transferred. Maybe Yedlin will be loaned back. Maybe we have not bought Yedlin. We don't know.
Not everyone has blind faith in ITK.
We are just chatting and guessing and watching Gareth in the Super Cup now on ITV!:D

It wasn't ITK. It was from two of the biggest expert reporters on USMNT players in the US. It's going to happen and he'll be loaned back until the conclusion of the MLS season.

"We're delighted to announce we've reached agreement for the permanent transfer of Deandre Yedlin from @SoundersFC" - @SpursOfficial

"Deandre will be joining us at Upton Park on Saturday to watch the game but is being loaned back and will join January 1 #COYS"

Alittle comparison for comparisons sake. In 14 games this season, Yedlin's defensive score is 63.82 and he's created 15 chances. In 22 last season, Naughton's was -21.57. In 22 games last season and created 14 chances. Yedlin's intercepted 35 passes and blocked 6. Naughton intercepted 32 and blocked 4. And my favorite part. Yedlin has had a grand total of 0(!!!!!!!!) errors leading to goals. Naughton had 2. Oh and since I know a bunch of you are obsessed with aerial duals, Yedlin's won 60%. Naughton won 49%.

Conclusion: Can Yedlin come now? Please?

You spend way too much time on here, and get far too defensive whenever anybody has an opinion that differs to yours with regards to the status of deals.

Dude c'mon. I know you like Yedlin and that's fine, but that comparison is just awful. Firstly, to look at Naughton's stats you have to separate LB and RB because he is dire on the left and hopefully never has to play there again. Secondly, and more importantly, how can you possibly attempt to compare stats across leagues with such a massive gap in quality? You're telling me that making an error against Luis Suarez is the same as making an error against Fabian Espindola? Come off it.

Yeah because the leagues are the exact same quality with the same style of play. You sound ridiculous right now. Typical knee jerk/hot sports take fan.

Naughton is a much better EPL fullback than Yedlin right now (that can and probably will change in the future). Quoting stats from one player in the MLS and one player in the EPL is frankly laughable.

1st point, Yes, I do :). Regarding the second point, I'm not sure where you've got that from. I've been a bit ****y regarding Yedlin because it's strange how people were speculating about Yedlin coming here now when there's no evidence to back it up...

Comment accepted, and I'll probably forget about it by the morning :)(y):p:D

If you dont think I know there is a massive difference in quality between EPL and MLS, you are all sorely mistaken and frankly have not read any of my posts regardig MLS. So if you are going to use that in your naughton defense, do not bother.

Also, Yedlin is sooo much better going forward than Naughton, it is not worth comparing that. Naughton is a better defender atm and thats it. But Yedlin will end up alot better than Naughton and given that with the fact Yedlin has pace for days and much better going forward, I'd rather Yedlin.

You sound like an idiot given that you defend MLS every time I bash it. Now you accuse me of not knowing the difference of quality. Pick one and stick with it.

I completely disagree with you but I reckon Naughton will be off in January so you'll get your wish ;)

Anyone who saw the USA v Belgium world cup match knows Yedlin is a fantastic talent... Jan Vertonghen probably called home and told Spurs buy this kid as he was given a heap of trouble all night.. I agree he needs to improve defensively but going forward he is probably even better than Walker..

I am by no means a big fan of the MLS but this general mentality (I find it outside SC all the time as well) that players are only as good as their league is absolute garbage. Did David Villa forget how to shoot over the course of the summer after playing in the UCL final in May because he moved to NYCFC?

I have watched loads of games with Naughton as we all have, and I have watched every US game Yedlin played in along with a handful of Sounders games and was present for his USMNT debut. Naughton is more mature than Yedlin but he lacks the confidence, pace, acceleration, dribbling and slide tackle that Yedlin offers. I honestly think any casual fan could quickly point out those things from watching each for a single half. Yedlin is not ready to start for Spurs but he could be within two years if for some sad reason Walker was to go. Naughton, sadly, will never be first choice. This is, I believe, why we are selling Naughton and buying Yedlin.

Comparing stats from the MLS to the EPL is pointless, but the attitude that Yedlin is a lesser player because he's in the MLS is equally stupid. He wasn't found in the MLS--he was found when he went 1v1 against Hazard, shut him down defensively and dribbled & 1-2'd circles around him. I would love Naughton to be capable of that, but it's just not happening.

I think Yedlin will play games for Spurs this season probably as sub we already play guys like Fredricks who have even less experience.

I am an MLS fan but I can understand the difference between the two leagues. There's a such thing as middle ground.

I also believe that my opinion on somebody or something can be swayed over time so I don't pick a fanatical one sided argument and defend it to the death. I allow for other people's opinions and facts to change my views. It's a pretty cool concept.
