Trying to watch the game to see how Yedlin fares, but it is so bad. The quality is fucking awful. Not Yedlin as such, just overall. Bloody hell, it might be a one off, but I couldnt imagine 'enjoying' this sort of spectacle every week.

Commentators just said Yedlin will be leaving in January.

Did I hear right @yankspurs ?

My stream was still talking about the need to get the Latvian passport for Yedlin to enable a work permit. The process is still on going as apparently his Grandfather has to get one 1st? So I guess no one knows for certain when he can arrive...

I'm pretty sure they said the latest rumour coming out of the MLS is that he's 100% coming in January.

Just went back and listened. They said he might be playing his final games for Seattle. Nothing about the atest rumors coming from MLS or anything. Pretty much same as before. Nothing new.

Getting the game live here in Toronto. I agree with @0-Tibsy-0 its not a good match. Yedlin does not look bad though, seems full of confidence

First half was very sloppy and chippy. But, MLS is a shit league(doesnt help that teams flat out refuse to use a fucking grass pitch - USSF had to install it's own temp grass to play in Seattle for a qualifier). No matter what anyone tries to tell you. It's fucking awful. League 1/Championship. Only about 5-10% of the players in the league can play and play well in a top flight league in Europe, ike Yedlin and Dempsey. There is a reason why the Premier League constantly has better ratings in the US than MLS. The support for the clubs though is great as is the support for the USMNT.

And the commish is doing everything in his power to just make more money by adding teams instead of making the league and US soccer in general more competitive by introducing promotion/relegation. Been a big thing in the US recently. Klinsy called out MLS and Michael Bradley(who went from a quality, very, very good CM to beyond shit in a few short months snce moving from Roma) and Garber went all nuts about it and made himself look worse in the process.

/tldr ... MLS sucks. Don Garber is a fucking retard. Jurgen Klinsmann is the only one not afraid to say something.

Does Yedlin need the Latvian passport? He has a good number of caps for the USMNT already. I would hate to see us bring him in and then not use him or loan out again. If Walker can't make it back to a good level by January I'm sure we will bring him in. Taking him on in the summer also isn't too appealing because that is midseason in the MLS. He'd probably tire out by spring.

Yedlin does not have the 75% necessary to qualify automatically. He will have the 75% about September 10.

If he comes over in January - he'll need the Latvian passport, or he will have to appeal based on exceptional talent - maybe he wins, maybe he doesn't.

I hope he doesn't get too hyped up to the extent that people expect loads from him immediately.

Have to significantly lower your expectations to enjoy it. Fuck, there are a bunch of people in Australia attending matches to watch this ffs:

@yankspurs

While I can't disagree with all that you've said, the picture you've painted of the MLS and specifically Garber is a bit too harsh. Comparing the MLS to the Championship is fair I think, but to act as if it some great travesty that the Premier League is more popular...well of course it is. It's one of the top leagues in the world with some of the best players, largest endorsement deals, etc. v.s. a league that's just now twenty years old within a country that, by and large, cares little for soccer. There aren't many casual american soccer fans (excluding the world cup summers), as for many years we have needed to actively seek games out, since they rarely came on TV. It should come as no surprise then that among those soccer fans, a league that is just as accessible and can boast a higher quality of play is the favored choice.

As for Garber, while the argument can be made that his best option would have been to forgo saying anything at all, his primary concern is to grow the MLS, which includes defending it from criticism. Now I do agree with Jurgen's comments, but just as we would expect the commissioner of any other league to defend their quality of play when criticized, Garber doing so should come as no great shock. His loyalty is to the MLS owners and the league, not to Klinsmann. Hell, if he didn't start defending the MLS when it was attacked, I'd be a bit worried, as that's his job.

Promotion/Relegation talk is FAR too early. While I certainly hope it comes eventually, we don't have the depth for it yet. Think of how many 5,000 seater teams could find themselves in the top tier at this point. I'd root for the Silverbacks like crazy if they were promoted, (I'm an Atlantan) but the league would look just terrible with them in it. We don't need a new Chivas every year. Let's establish a solid top division first, and then work our way down.

Now, I do agree on expansion in that it will water the product down, which is never a good thing. At the same time, Atlanta has close to 15,000 season ticket pledges three years off from actually playing, so I can't write off the expansion strategy in the long run just yet.

As for Yedders, I hope Seattle lifts the cup this year so he can ride off into the sunset in style, before coming to us, where we may or may not (probably) crush his dreams.

Sorry for the off-topic stuff, and if anyone managed to read this all, god bless you.

Edit: Just saw that we essentially agreed on why the BPL is more popular, just went about it in different ways, so fair enough there. Just got my knickers in a twist for a moment.

Immigration rules in this country are ridiculous. A non EU guy who lacks 75% international caps that year, or isn't an exceptional talent, can't get in despite the fact that he's going to earn I'd guess £500k p.a. Immediately, almost half of which will go to tax, yet any old Latvian can get in without even having a job arranged just on the basis that they're EU.

Klinsi should have shut his fucking mouth when it came to the MLS, Garber owned him in this scenario. Also quite a few teams have a grass pitch so relax. Leave it yo yourself to come up with fake reasons to bash the MLS. There won't be any relegation or promotion ever, you're just making things up there, no owner would ever agree to it, it's a straw man.

Going by your name I thought you were from France!

I wasnt that original when signing up (or too smart for myself), so some kinda fanzy internet youtish sounding acronym on "from Allan Nielsen to Christian Eriksen" was all I could think of.

There might have been alcohol involved.
