1. he was cheap
2. he is very fast
3. he shows a lot of promise (for an American)
4. he is American, which is a developing market

its a pretty good gamble for Levy.
I get that. MoPo plays Mason. That's it for his daring. Naughton plays this season when anyone with a brain knows he is not good enough for Spurs.

You being serious? You think playing Mason has been the only risky but calculated move that Poch has made? And Naughton played about 3/4 games in the very beginning of the season until both Chiriches/Dier took over.

Dier played the bulk at RB over Naughton, of course that was due to red cards and injury. Vlad played RB after coming on for Dier at half vs Everton. Then he relinquished that spot to Walker when he returned after another game or 2. So Naughton didnt really play too much.

Coming into the discussion late but I think I get the picture.

Yedlin showed in his brief playing time at the World Cup that he has all the ingredients to be superb. He was also dirt cheap, and from a market we are obviously trying to corner. To sign him made sense.

That doesn't mean he was Premiership ready. He is extremely young and only has experience of a far poorer league.

That doesn't mean he never will be ready. Any player who performs as he did v a very string Belgian left hand side is obviously capable, if not yet consistently, of great things and may well eventually be one of the best in his position.

Not really sure what my point is.

Oh yeah....

Be patient! Mad as a sack of frogs some of you!!!

Seems whoever operates the club's Twitter account saw this thread on the first page. Couple pictures of Yedlin training with the first team today.

MoPo not exactly encouraging the yoof.
Dier: 20
Walker: 24
Rose: 24
Mason: 24
Bentaleb: 20
Townsend: 23
Eriksen: 23
Kane: 21

So, fact is our current first team, who just started our last 3 games including the final, contains 8 players aged 24 or under, 5 of whom came through our youth system, 6 of whom are English, 7 of whom cost under £2.5m, and all of whom collectively cost £15.5m, averaging out at under. £2m/ player and hugely skewed by Eriksen, who cost £9m.

Couple all this with the fact that they play in place of Chiriches, Fazio, Davies (young but expensive), Paulinho, Capoue, Lamela (young but expensive), Dembele and Soldado, all of whom were signed as full internationals, all of whom cost upwards of £8m, 6 of whom were past the age of 24 at the time of signing (with those 6 all now being past the age of 26), and who have a combined cost of £124m and you cannot fail to conclude that Pochettino is giving youth a chance.

That is, unless you're you, which, sadly, you are.

Cheap and unnecessary shot.
If my existence saddens you that is sad.
He has promoted 24 yo Mason from the yoof and that's it.
Thread's about Yedlin. His name is not on your list. Or MoPo's.

Do you honestly believe he doesnt promote youth at all? Despite him fielding a relatively young squad at Southampton too?
