The thing is, I don’t think it was really them, I think adama was holding out for barca and wolves kinda had their hands tied. Could be wrong
Well you're right in that we can be sure they didn't choose to be in this situation. But I think they allowed it to happen by not recognising that the player would never sign a new contract and will leave one way or another. So get as much as you can as soon as you can and move on

For the right price, he’d add something different…

He’s a chaos merchant - wouldn’t be a bad option to mix it up
If he could be converted like Perisic or Moses to defend quite well (doesn't have to be amazing) then yeah you've got quite an option on your hands. But apparently he wasn't interested in being a WB. Lots a shame because, as you say he creates total chaos, but he just isn't consistently good enough to be a forward. But from WB his forward quality might be acceptable

I think its Conte's honest assessment.

If you think Spence is walking into the XI - you are in for a bit of a wait.

Spence will have to earn Conte's trust on the training pitch, and in the minutes he does get - but he is not coming in to take the RWB job at the start of the season.

Just think Conte is letting us all know that don't be surprised if Spence isn't starting immediately kind of thing.

Doherty will surely start against Southampton.

even if it’s true it’s dissapointing he’s said this ngl. How is it gonna make Spence feel when he sees this.

Spence is a professional at a top club now. He will know that he has his work cut out for him - and if he has what it takes, I have always said I think he could be an impact player for us after the WC break.

If this causes him to lose faith, then better we find that out now.

ITK told us that Spence was a bit of a compromise pick - HG to allow room to go after a bigger target that Conte did want.

If Conte thought Spence could play a role early in the season - he would have pushed for the deal to be done before the Korea trip. Spence is a luxury to Conte, not a need. (I know many fans feel differently).

As I said in a different thread - look at the XI - all veterans, all experienced at top levels, all players that Conte trusts "not to lose games". Spence does not fit that mold - yet. If he keeps his head down, and works hard this fall, and takes his chances when he gets them - I think he can convince Conte. But, right now, he does not have Conte's trust.

Hardly surprising, anyone thinking he would start was probably due this reality check.

Doherty/Emerson remain ahead of him, which ever one stays.

Like despite the fact he's young and Conte typically prefers experience that Conte felt he has shown enough ability to take the risk which is to his credit? That'd make me feel pretty fucking good if Conte thought I was worth an opportunity despite my lack of experience.

Totally agree. Conte would have spoken to him on the way in and said: you have to earn your place.

I think this is fine. I doubt it’s inconsistent with anything said in private.

It also shows the ITK info from Trix was spot on! Fair dos

I’d be disappointed if Emerson is still starting over him as just does not offer enough going forward.

Same old shockingly negative vibes from the same old negative people. If I could be bothered, I'd plot something out against the people bigging up Arsenal's signings in the general forum... ?

He won’t need to read it. Conte’s going to tell it to his face. Every day. And I’m not concerned about that, because Warnock did the same thing and the kid used it as motivation.

Contes quotes back up the ITK accurately. Anyone who thinks Spence was Contes top choice for RWB or even close to it are way off the mark. It’s clear he’s a club target compromise which Conte is on board with, but that’s very different from him being a active top Conte target and it’s also different from Conte not wanting him or having the signing forced on him.

ITK told us Spence was the HG compromise signing. Now let’s hope we get a top class AM and CB
