I have heard bad things about his attitude, but as a player I would love us to get him in

I take back what I said about being more interested in the Aberdeen kid, I was basing it off of games I'd seen in the past but since we were linked obviously they've had a few F.A cup games to watch and clearly Djed has vastly improved. I wanted more of a passer but it's clear what Conte wants in a RWB and this kid appears to have those factors.

Get both players. Djed is 21 and Calvin Ramsay is 18. Djed can step in for Royal, if the plan is still to sell Emerson and we can loan Ramsay back to Aberdeen or maybe a club in the Championship to continue his development. We really don't have any exciting RB/RWB talent in our academy and doing deals for both players will speak to some actual progressive planning for the squad.

In the likely event we’re unable to shift one of Emerson and Doherty this summer I feel strongly that we are in the position where we need to focus on using all of our available funds to purchase an established RWB and improve on other areas of the first XI rather than investing in one (or two) unproven talents for the future. I think it would be quite a gamble to trust that either Spence or Ramsey, who have been playing Championship and SPL football, respectively, are ready to put in consistent top level performances in the Premier League for a title challenging side (ideally).

Given what our manager and fans expect us to achieve relative to the current competitiveness and financial state of the playing squad / club its not the right time to invest in potential. We need players that are ready now – and preferably per club ethos – are also young and have potential to improve further.

Doubt you can convince two RB prospects nowadays to join your project. They will have enough suitors to pick a club that shows them a path soon to be first choice RB at the club.

Ignoring the attitude issues, I thought he looked excellent against Liverpool and stood out a mile.

Within a few minutes of watching he showed more going forward than I've seen from Royal all season.

Need to be careful as he could be a disaster if he can't get his head straight, but in terms of pure talent and athleticism he looks quality. Better than Isaiah Jones IMO, who also looks tidy but doesn't have the same explosiveness that I think gives Spence a higher ceiling.

‘Attitude issues’ is a MASSIVE red flag to me!

Not sure we’d be willing to be burnt again so soon after N’Dombele, unless Conte is confident it’s a minor problem.

I see attitude problems associated a lot with Djed Spence but I’ve never actually seen any proof or articles, is there any?

The great thing about Conte is that players joining will know the deal. 100% effort and discipline or you’re gone!

At what? £10-12m, it’s worth the risk. Not like Djed Spence is going to single-handedly ruin the locker room morale. If he acts like an asshole he’ll be gone. And, I don’t see him acting up for a manager like Antonio Conte. It’s a non-issue for me, give the kid a chance. Also do we actually have any real evidence he’s a “problem” or is it all just hearsay?

His fatal mistake was telling Neil Warnock not to say "me" at the end of every sentence.

As much as this guy is talented, I’m a little worried about his end product. His tally of four assists this season is the same as Emerson’s last season, only in a worse league. And in two seasons as a semi-regular starter at Middlesborough, he didn’t manage a single assist.

Meanwhile his replacement at Middlesborough, Isiah Jones, has assisted nine goals this season.

He can only get assists for what his team mates finish. I've seen alot of him and his team mates miss alot of sitters which he set them up nicely for. He could easily have had more than 10 assists this season alone.

Infogol have him down as creating 4.79 xA, which suggests that his teammates have missed good chances but not to a major extent.

I agree, but those same chances he created for our front 3. His stats would look even better. He has the attributes to be successful as a RWB in Contes system. Conte will also coach him in his style to make him more efficient.

Nothing against Doherty . Who has improved under conte , or Spence. But if we are going into the champions league and wanting to stay in top 4 . Then surely having those two as our only options, is a little underwhelming. Assuming Royal may go and I don’t think he is of acquired level we need either .

It's possible that Spence is one of those Championship signings we make from time to time that aren't part of the overall plan.

We bring him in and if he is ready to go like Dele then great (I think he would be). If not he might get a loan or be a rotation player.

I suspect us going for a higher profile RWB target would be based on someone offering what we want for Emerson or Doherty. Also as others have said there are a real lack of obvious RWB targets out there (Hakimi is not realistic). I'm not sure Lamptey at £50m would be better business than Spence for £12m for example.

All of that also applies to players who already have impressive assist totals, only they’d be starting from a higher base.

Such as who for right wing back? There simply aren't many top options out there in this position. Nearly every option is a gamble and here are the stats for RWBs we have been linked to or are potentially on the market:

League only
Frimpong (22 years old) 6 assists
Spence (21 years old) 4 assists
Singo (21 years old) 4 assists
Dumfries (26 years old) 4 assists
Lamptey (21 years old) 2 assists
Maehle (25 years old) 1 assist

Funnily enough that order would probably be the order I'd go for them in preference.
