Please stop shifting Perisic to another position before he is even announced. We bought a world class LWB and want to shoehorn him in somewhere else already, dont get it...
Yeah that's a fair point, my thinking was there seems to be a lack of good options for rwb but more for lwb and we need both to be improved. He's been announced now anyway :). Let's see who we end with at rwb ?.

I may be wrong but has Sess ever played in the championship?

Absolutely ripped it up at 17 - scored 14 goals and was named Championship player of the season, Young Championship player of the season, and Championship apprentice of the season

I thought you were joking then! ?
Sess killed it in the championship and that's why we decided to stump up the amount of cash we did on him.
Surprised you didn't know that to be honest, I thought everyone knew because we were linked with him for donkeys.

He was the Champs highest rated youngster for quite some time.

Right wing back is an essential position we get right now we have Perisic for the left.

If we go in hard for Spence then obviously Paraciti and Conte have thoroughly scouted, although still a bit of a risk given we want to be straight in there next season.

Might be old school Spurs, but I still want this club to buy and develop young, English talent. Spence is a massive prospect. Fast, physical, and big but equally skilled and confident to excel in that RWB position.

Will it translate to Premier League? I suggest people watch his performances against Arsenal and Leicester in FA Cup. He completely shut down Martinelli on the left and was the best player on the pitch and scored a goal against Leicester. That seems to indicate he is talented enough to play at this level.

I'd put money on Spence not being #1 choice at RWB if he comes. I think Doc (right now) will be ahead of him, Spence most likely would be on the bench to learn his trade.

Prediction: If we buy, he will be loaned straight back to Forest, Spence needs to play every game at PL level to develop.. he's not going to, nor is he ready to do that for us. He loves it at NFFC and this would suit him, give him the experience and exposure he needs, and also allows Spurs to monitor and structure his development.

Of course all bets are off if we buy a RWB.. then Doc and the incoming player fight it out for that position, Royal is sold, Spence is loaned.

Nobody was more delighted than me to see Doherty ram the criticisms of him back down people’s throats the second half of the season but I think him and this guy as our right sided options just isn’t good enough for a team in the champions league. I like Spence but I don’t see why we are so mesmerised by him. He’s not going to light up that right hand side and Doherty isn’t a top four player. It is a real problem. I’m glad it isn’t my job to sort it out because there are a lot of pitfalls. Converting a right winger might still be our best option.

I would either keep Emerson and Doherty and sign a quick, attack minded RWB or sell Doherty and sign 2 RWB’s.

People say we only need 2 RWB and 2 LWB but taking into account both the amount of games we’ll have to play and an injury to either or both a R/LWB and we’ll be down to one. They can’t play all the time. It would be sensible to have as a minimum:

2 like for like RWB
2 like for like LWB
1 versatile player who can play both RWB and LWB eg Emerson. He’s also defensively solid

To compete on all fronts we need a squad eg 25 players. With the reported incomings and outgoings they would offset each other and although we would have additional quality we would still be short on numbers.
Good post completely agree. I think 5 wing back options is ideal balance, 2 for each with 1 who can cover both sides and Davies emergency cover at LWB

Doherty can play both left and right side. But he won’t be pleased if we sell Emerson and buy two right sided players.

Yup, Doherty and Spence doesn’t seem like a trophy winning combo.

But Conte won with Ashley Young, Victor Moses, Darmian, etc..

So who knows!

While i agree and suspect that he is at best a solid back up, we really haven't seen how far he can develop under Conte's system. Far too many of us have judged someone to not have the goods to be proven wrong . My extraordinarily wrong expectations for Kane are the reason i will always be humble when judging players in the future.

I think under Conte players don't need to be the best, good but not necessarily the best, just able to understand and follow instructions. Look at the difference in our players/team since he's been here.

It’s obvious from our business so far and from Conte’s constant urging that we are gearing up to compete on all fronts next season. If Spence is indeed our top choice at RB, which seems to be the case, then the clear implication is that Paratici and Conte have both run the rule over him and decided he’s ready to have an impact immediately.

This forum is chock full of people saying “I just want whatever players Conte does” but you don’t get to say that and then be disappointed because he wants a player who isn’t a big exciting name.

I was absolutely delighted when we signed Doherty and I didn’t expect him to struggle at all. It was a surprise.

The thing with Spence, who do we compare him to at the same time in their careers that is English? His path looks similar to Kyle Walker if you ask me. Personally I think if we sign him he needs to go on loan to prove himself in the PL first. We can then get another player for that position. Just a bit of forward planning.

Doesn't sound like he's willing to join just to go out on loan.

He's played very well against solid premier league opposition last year. Worth the gamble.
