This one looks like a key signing as it´s for a position that´s of high importance in Conte´s preferred system, and drags on and on... I hope he´ll be worth the hassle but I sure hope that there´s a plan B. WIth this one, I really think that we should set a deadline and move on once it has passed instead of wasting more time dealing with Gibson´s antics

Going into this window, RWB looked like the clear number one priority. Now we are talking about a guy who by all admission is not the best RWB we could get, but convenient because he's home grown. Then we are losing valuable time with the counterparty playing silly buggers. I don't see why we don't prioritise getting the best RWB and then we can lose time getting a home grown player for a lower priority position.

I don't know what the massive stress is over this deal. It will happen in the end.

He's not coming in as first choice. Doherty was on fire before his injury at villa and our formed dipped considerably when he went out the team. Him and Kulskevski had a brilliant partnership forming.

with this one If it drags on a bit it drags on a bit. We don't need him from day one this season, he will play a similar developmental role to Sess.

I don't think anyone here knows who the 'best' RWB is though. I'm certainly struggling to find an obvious choice. Apart from Hakimi who is most likely unobtainable there don't seem to be obvious candidates. Lots of options are good defensively but lack attacking output and we've already got Emerson for that.

I get what you're saying about it being such an important position but don't think we're opting for a lesser option just
because he's home grown in this case, we've scouted him extensively so FP etc must think he has potential to be elite which is the next best thing if we can't find someone currently elite for a 'Conte system RWB'.

If Doc is back to his best, he will surely start V Soton
Doc and Skipp will be the proverbial new signings if back to their best
Both first teamerrs, of course with rotation etc

If you have ever followed Conte's career, it doesn't take much working out to know he will be fuming.
The only person have should be fuming with is Gibson and his daft price demands for a wing back who isn’t even top flight proven.

Is it daft though? £25m yes, £20m no.

The last 2 major full backs transfers out of the Championship were:

Matty Cash 20/21 to Villa £14.18m
Jamal Lewis 20/21 to Newcastle £14.85m

Granted Lewis had played one season in EPL but he played in a relegated side who conceded goals for fun.

Both players went for circa £15m and to ‘lower’ EPL sides.

We’re a top 4 side targeting a very promising RWB who made the Championship team of the year. £20m isn’t excessive. It would only be an issue if the deal included very attainable add ons that would push the fee in the £30m+ region.

I mean... isn't that the main issue? I swear that's what our ITK's have been alluding to, that a lot of the add ons are outrageous.

So it's not just the initial price, it's the price and the add ons.

If he is the one Conte really wants then back him, stop fucking about and just pay an extra few mill, get him in so we can focus on other deals.

what if overpaying for Spence means we can’t sign another player that “Conte really wants”? What do you do then?

We're not talking tens of millions though as we, probably another £5m absolute maximum and even that would probably be performance related.

We need to act like a big club sometimes when it comes to Conte, just get the man what he wants and keep him happy.

'Just spend an extra 5 million to keep the manager happy' is probably why none of us run football clubs

exactly in terms of PL prize money to clear 5 million more we would need to finish first not 4th (2nd would leave us a bit short)

Think i saw something on here about us making 7million in the stadium on the NLD so we would need another day like that.

I know there are loads of other revenue streams etc but the just bung another 5million sometime needs a bit of clarity even in the ever increasing madness of football finance

Why are so sure he is the one Conte wants?

Nothing anywhere points to that.

And, how do you know Conte isn't involved in the decision?

Most likely scenario to me seems to be Conte, Levy and Paratici sat down and said this kid could be a good punt. Home grown. Not too expensive. Decent season. Let's give him a go.

And all 3, Conte included have decided he simply isn't worth the punt at the price quoted.

Seriously, why the fuck are people thinking Conte would even consider quiting over a championship right back???????

The fact we’ve been negotiating with Middlesbrough all summer kinda suggests that tbf.

And we're only negotiating with him? As our ITK's have said a few times, there are other options we have. This was just the one that I suppose seemed gettable from the start (I mean Boro clearly do not want him). Unfortunately it's not seemed to pan out that way and we keep getting close but then an issue appears.
