Braindead challenge. Him and a Richy were trying to rile up and shithouse the Gabriels. The challenge went too far. A red was probably harsh, but Royal needs to be smarter.

It was a daft challenge although I still think harsh to get a red - though why he felt he even needed to go in like that is beyond me.

Him and Richy were trying to show the other Brazilians how tough they are. Gabriel and Richy were having little mini-duels and Martinelli was already getting the best of Royal for the most of the game and Emerson wanted to get back at him.

The red card doesn't even greatly annoy me to be honest, the fact that he's our number one RWB after a summer of investment does though. Would rather have just tried for Perisic on the right and Kostic brought in for the left in the summer if the options for RWB were so scarce.

Could very well be, but based on what? Maybe you've seen him there more than I have. I'll be honest in that I haven't quite seen him do things at LWB that in watching I outright don't think he could do at RWB.

A note on the 1v1 defending: I might be wrong, but I think Martinelli said that he found Spence one of his hardest opponents last year.
