He's been a reliable player for us in multiple positions and a positive influence in the dressing room.

I'm not selling for £25-£30m.
And not to Saudi - where an inflated fee should be the starting point. Anything less than £50-60m should be a complete non-starter in a January window to a league with more money than sense.

But I can’t see us dealing Royal at all this window.

I’m not sure we will entertain bids now unless the money gets silly.

in the summer him and Davies could well be replaced to players more in the Porro/Udogie mould as we will hopefully be playing a lot more games next season.

He’s a vital squad player at this moment in time, no chance we sell him this window. Having said that, we’ve been lucky that Porro hasn’t picked up an injury as I think the drop off with Emerson featuring regularly at RB would be pretty huge, so we shouldn’t be under any illusions that we’ll need to upgrade him at some point. His stock has improved immeasurably under Ange and he’ll have suitors in the summer so we can reassess the situation then.

He’s a better defender than Porro. And been excellent whenever called on. The manager has already said he loves him. Who are we upgrading him with?

That’s fair I just think for £30m or so can he be upgraded- yes. Will we get a £25m-30m bid again- unlikely. With Dragusin coming in and VDV and Romero back I think his minutes get cut. I don’t think he’s a bad player, just an upgradable one.

If FFP is going to be a big thing now we need to be considering players who may not be with us long term if we get good money, however saying that I don’t think he leaves now, if this bid came in the summer I think there’s more chance as we can get a replacement.

I’d be in no rush to sell him due to how versatile and reliable he’s been.

However, if we have a better player in mind that we are able to get in, then I wouldn’t be against it. Emerson is a decent enough defender, but I think he’s probably the least technically gifted player we have. He’s poor on the ball, and he knows it, which manifests itself in how hesitant he can be in possession.

He’s an ok back up, and his versatility makes him useful in lots of places, but I wouldn’t really want to see him have an extended spell at right back again, the drop off in technical ability from Porro would really affect the way we progress the ball.

So yeah, if we can get a good replacement, and they offer good money, I’d sell.

We wont get someone with as good as attitude or versatility,

Probably not, but he’s still primarily a right back, and I don’t think he’s good enough to play there for us now. He’s in a similar situation to Højbjerg for me. Don’t mind if he stays, but think he can be moved on if the stars align.

Great guy who’s proved a lot of people wrong.

That said, he is upgradable, and I would guess that with the amount of spending we’ve done and still plan to do, if a bid of £30m+ comes in, it would have to be seriously entertained.

Of course we got a huge windfall from Harry leaving, as well as bits for Winks and Sanchez, but in reality we don’t have many more players who we can sell for big sums to offset spending under FFP.

It’s really only Emerson and Hojbjerg who fit that description for me. The likes of Rodon, Sessegnon, Gil, Spence being sold aren’t going to do an awful lot in that regard.

No way I'd sell him, this a player who has come in, been vilified for a few poor performances, fought back, used his own money to improve his game and has exactly the type of character we need. Whenever he's called upon he does a job and normally a very good one.

He has now played all across the back line and has improved in every position.

Porro has been excellent, but I'd still have picked him in certain games.

As for him as an actual footballer, he is a brilliant one on one defender, has pace, power and is a very good passer (short passing), granted not as good as Porro, but TAA apart, who is?

He's even scored 4 goals so far for us as a full back. As long as he's happy with us he's a definite keep in my book.

The whole point of the pointless Saudi League is to fleece them for as much oily blood money as possible. You can forget £20m, start negotiating when they mention £50m. Emerson is a Swiss-army knife of a player and we need him with the way we pick up injuries and suspensions.
