Yeah he was horrific today, I feel a lot of the time playing next to Verts and Toby does really aid/cover his game. Those 2 are just insanely good

I think it fair to say he is a hybrid - he is not 100% natural in defence or midfield.
But he is not that uncomfortable in those areas either. Being 2 footed, he can play either side too.
If England are to win a tournament, where players get injured and banned, that kind of flexibility is a big plus.

Love Dier but he just looked like he couldn't be bothered today. Obviously it wasn't the case but that's what it looked like. There was a period of play where, although the ball was near him in midfield and in Scotland's possession, he just walked around making no attempt to really get involved. It went on for about 30 seconds and it was quite embarrassing. It can't have been tiredness as it was early in the second half. Maybe he had a slight injury or something we're unaware of but it just didn't look good. It was all very un-Diery...!

BBC gave him a low score and a shit write up, not that it matters what the BBC think but still not great.

The way England set up just doesn't make sense to me. We have the majority of our team come from either Spurs or Liverpool, so why not play a style that fits with how they've been successfully playing all season? It's like he's picked the best performing current players and tried to fit them into Italia'90.........or maybe it's just me?

You're right. I can't understand why Southgate did t play 3 at the back and allow the fullbacks to play as wingbacks. Jake Livermore in central midfield is not good enough.

Good free-kick from him though, although I was hoping Kane would take it.
He is not exactly Beckham but he got it on target and it helped start the passage of play we scored from.

"We’ve improved a lot on last season (2015-16) in terms of the Premier League, obviously there are things that we can still improve on and definitely next season we’ll be looking to do a lot better in the Champions League as well. But overall I think it’s been a positive season.

"I think this group and this team and this Club wants to keep improving and keep striving to do even better than we are at the moment. That’s always the objective."

Yep when I saw the line-ups I was excited to see 3-4-2-1. Then I realised it was Scotland playing that and we were playing 4-2-3-1.

I thought he was really poor tonight for England. You can blame the players around him but he looked slow and cumbersome - also his passing was awful - obviously for the goal but by no means only.

He wasn't alone in that and why he wasn't tasked with shutting down Pogba I do not know but he had a bad day at the office - by no means the only one tonight.

I love him and he loves me so it'll all be OK.

Such a limited range of passing...

Yeah, a youtube highlights package that doesn't showcase any of his poor passes must comprehensively prove anyone who thinks he's somewhat limited wrong. Looks like we have the second coming of Pirlo on our hands.

You really have trouble letting go dude.

He's not been the same IMO since the later stages of the 2016 Euros for both Club and Country :(

He's lost that vital spark and need a reality check
