Boy his hold up play is on another level this season. He never had this in early Spurs career. I remember how easily he used to get dispossessed and how many times he used to give the ball away.

None of that this season. Everything he does, he does it with conviction. A footballer really matures when he develops the intelligence of doing the right thing at the right time. He has shown that this year.

I still think he holds onto the ball too long and therefore a lot of chances break down, but when youve got son in the team he can be forgiven.

I think last night he was specifically told to hold on the ball for long time. If it was a normal match situation instead of last 15 minutes, he would have passed the ball more faster i guess.

I've always liked Erik, so pleased to see him performing so well after such a long time out. Excited about the prospect of him having a good pre-season and being ready for next season.

Agreed, but, apparently, his performance would be open to abuse if he was anybody else:
Imagine the abuse any other player would get if they were as wasteful as Lamela has been today....

When he's running with the ball, he gives the impression that he's moving quickly across the ground, where as in reality, its like treading sand. He definitely got stronger since his lay off. he also does play some delightful one touch balls, but not 100% sure he's genuinely worthy of a place in the starting X1.

It's the other way round. We lost the ball too quickly at the end of the game yesterday. The players should've hold onto the ball longer. Lamela is the only one that did it. You need to defend WITH the ball.

Agree with this. He is literally one of our most versatile players. He has defensive awareness when needed, and has the talent to hold and shield the ball, and to break up oppo attacks through his tackling and pressing. All great qualities when we're trying to see out a game.

I actually think if he could be trained positionslly, Lamela has the ingredients to be a very good central midfielder and a natural successor to Dembele.

I've thought the same. He reads the game really well on both ends, good at receiving the ball under pressure. He's aware both defensively and in attack. Has good ball skills, and has a killer pass. Defensively, he's the leader of our press when he's out there, and the first into a defensive tackle to break up dangerous plays.

There is some serious circlejerking going on here. Now Lamela not passing the ball, but losing it instead is suddenly commendable and he is now so versatile that he could play CM instead of Dembele. Lamela as a CM is beyond nonsense. Like i can’t even comprehend how anyone can convince themselves that its a good idea.

Fuck me, i like the lad but you would think he was the worlds best player reading some of this stuff.

Think we're talking about him not losing the ball for starters. He's one of our best at holding possession imo. He has both defensive and offensive awareness. Think you need to say more about why you think he doesn't have CM qualities. You know, a footballing conversation...

Lets just say i’m glad it’s Poch choosing the team and not some of you guys ;)

I think we can all safely say that it’s a good thing a professional football manager is picking the Spurs team and not a random poster

Maybe, maybe not. B-C could take us to the next level imo, and turn us into an elite club, but maybe he’s not a ‘random poster’ either...
