ive seen a lot of lamela and i feel he may take time to settle. like a poster said above he is too nice. he never goes down. what we are paying for is promise as much as immediate talent. lamela shows flashes of brilliance but goes missing a lot, he is also nowher near as explosive as bale but more technical. I can see AVB transforming him into a monster though
I agree, but Roma didn't have Sandro or Paulinho to protect players like that. Plus, we'll have a Willian to give Lamela far more space than he was used to at Roma.

You have to think that if we are really going after him it is because Baldini, having worked with him, sees the potential. I do love this Levy / Baldini / AVB deal making triumvirate!

Well that may possibly help but he is a classic case of inconsistency at a young age. Still, even bale wasnt this good when he was 21 so if he joins now this time next year he could be even better :)

what im saying is that i dont expect him to hit the ground running and dish out match winning performances very often. willian on the other hand i expect to completely change us as a team and the way we play immediately

Maybe. I don't know. You know, we're having to put a whole unit together very quickly. A unit that hasn't played together before, so who knows where or who the challenges are going to come from. It may not be Lamela. It may be somewhere else. I've seen enough of what he can do...not live, but on youtube, to know he's a talent. You give someone who has talent protection, and above all else confidence! And you see what happened with Bale...

And what's more, you give AVB a talent like that and my little stubby gets marginally bigger.

Marginally.

what would it take to go from marginally to significantly?

Surgery?!

Back on topic..... If we can get him and Willian in, and if we did lose bale, I think we would be more of a threat from both sides instead of putting all the hope on Bale, so it would improve the team over all. I still want Bale to stay as well though :( cant see it happening now though.

Not sure what I expect initially to be honest. I'm certain that Bale wasn't this good 3 years ago. Just for the sake of comparison, going by age Lamela's 2012-13 season matches with Bale's 2009-10 season. In 2009-10 Bale got 3 goals and 5 assists, last season Lamela got 15 goals and 5 assists. Even in 2011-12 Bale didn't get that many combined, he only really stepped up on a consistent basis this last season. Getting those kind of goal/assist tallies as a 20 year old (which Lamela was for most of the season) is pretty incredible.

Are there any Romanisti out there who actually believe that selling Lamela will lead to something good? That it's a positive in any way?

That's Lamela. The pin-up boy for the “project”. The kid we signed for over €17m only two years ago, will now be sold to Tottenham Hotspur.

Sold to a club who isn’t even in the Champions League. Sold for €30m. Barely a €10m profit over two seasons.

Worse still, the clowns paraded Lamela around the Olimpico yesterday & will sell him tomorrow. This is a huge slap in the face to every fan.

Unlucky, bro.

I think you also have to remember that ingoing to Roma he made the move from South America to Europe and has had to settle into a new continent as a young man. I have a lot of Argentinian friends who found the cultural differences took some time to adjust to. I suspect this is just the right time in his development as a player and a person to come to is in London

Lamela will be an absolute revelation if we can add him and Willian to the side. Willian playing from the left will create a lot of chances for both Soldado and Lamela, and it will really suit Lamela's style of play. We also will see an end to situation where both Walker and Lennon go for the same ball as Walker's job will be to get wide while Lamela drives into the area. Having 2/3 of our 4 beasts in midfield will provide Lamela with a lot of cover too. It is very exciting being a Spurs fan right now. Fingers crossed we can get the deal done.

This is what exites me about Lamela. He is just about lined up (assuming all goes well, he is in the right team, etc) for a season comparable to Bale's previous one, despite being, what 2 or three years younger than him? If he really works at it he could be even better than Bale. I actually think a side with him and Willian in it will do much better than one with just Bale.

Somebody else's cock

Anyway

Really want some fresh ITK on this. Willian and Lamela seem so close but just seem to be dragging now. It's like everything is in slow motion and the thought of signing both is just so exciting that it actually hurts waiting for any news.
