Regardless of if you like or loath him, Poch's latest comments are a little bit worrying. Essentially he is saying he doesn't know what's wrong with him, but what ever IT is, IT is getting worse. I'm sure he knows more then he is letting on, but saying they are worried and that he/they don't know is hardly a good look for the club.

This might be interesting in support of what @THFCSPURS19 is saying, it was posted by @Cravenspurs in the Tactical Autopsy thread:

I think these stats were posted by a foreign football blogger as a preview to the Leverkusen game, and are based on last season's stats I think. Lamela has always been the player making more of those little incisive passes in and around the box than any other player we have. It's close between him and Eriksen, but these days Eriksen is often playing a much deeper remit, so is less likely, and Son isn't even on the list, after Lamela and Eriksen there's a real drop off.

Here is something to support what I am saying - which i feel i need to re-iterate - I dont think Lamela doesnt create chances - I just think his absence is not crux of what our problem is and while I do agree he is excellent at LOOKING for that little incisive ball he is also as inconsistent as anyone else in the team and sometimes creates nothing at all.

Here are the chances he created vs WBA. What we lacked in that game was clinical finishing - Perhaps we did miss more incisive passes from Lamela but he had the opportunity to play them whilst on the pitch

Similarly vs Bournemouth he didnt create any forward passing through balls at all - and you know, this is perhaps down to our forwards not being in great positions or making great runs but we did also manage to create around 30 chances over those two games and other players did manage to find those incisive through balls

Im not denying his importance to the team - im just not convinced he is the answer to our recent problems when he was just as much a part of our issues post Man City, really creating very little of note at all -

That'll teach me for butting in on the end of an argument I haven't read all of.

You are very right, and all summer - and since then as well - i have said the same thing, we need to desperately add some IQ to our attack.

As you were.

Apparently he has gone back to Argentina due to a family problem concerning his brother. No news on ether when he will be back in the UK or when he will be fit. Feel sorry for the lad, seems to be going through a rough patch at the moment, first injury now this. Poch seems to suggest it's something quite serious and I doubt the club would release him for anything whimsical.

On Erik, Mauricio said: "Erik is injured first of all but he also travelled back to Argentina last night because of a problem with his brother. We hope he's recovering well. It's a tough moment for him and we send a big hug to all the family."

Sounds very concerning. I hope it's nothing life threatening etc

Can't he catch a break? One of his brothers was already kidnapped a few years ago.

Nice to see Francis is frustrated with the news as well ;)

@Francis Gibbs - why did you give this a 'WTF' rating?

Club communication over Lamela's condition has been disappointing to say the least.
Because it's a fair chance that they don't know exactly how long he will be out for or that there is some personal issues in his family life that he is having to deal with.

We don't have a right to know every single thing about the players lives or recovery. It's more than enough to just know that they're injured and unavailable for selection.

Wait, so what you're saying is that just because they are paid an obscene amount of money, it doesn't mean we should control and be privy to all aspects of the players lives???

I'll keep that in mind next time I want to get on ol' Nessy here, my high horse, after its come out that a few players had the absolute gall to enjoy a few drinks out on the town.

Those going on about us only losing his pressing please refer to my previous posting of the stats this season with and without Lamela. Not great reading if we're without him for some time longer.
