This article sums up Lamela's contributions pretty well.

Sissoko is can also be effective in perssing and breaking up the play (e.g. against Man City). Son, on the other hand, is less good in this area. For this reason, I expect Son to contribute more goals than Lamela/Sissoko, in order to earn his place in the team.

He does far more than Lamela in other important areas though.

Hmmm

Yes he scores more goals but his pressing, workrate and general creative play aren't a match for Lamela.

I think both their qualities are equally important to the team. I just don't think it's fair to criticise Lamela for something that Alli is certainly more culpable of but seems to get an easy ride about because he's the current darling of English football.

Been paying attention to this thread the last few days and its only reminded me why i hate it with the white hot fire of a thousand suns. Christ almighty. Its like now that hes injured and we've hit a purple patch, the inmates run the asylum in here. 'We dont need him, he sucks, yadda, yadda, yadda.' Give it up already. You're making yourselves look worse than you did before.

Is it crazy thread you're not wrong there. But recently there has been some constructive criticism on here. Now Eriksen gets criticised in his thread. Likewise Dele, Son, and even the golden boy Harry Kane.

This thread in the past has been like George Bush Junior. "You're either with us or you're against us."

It's no bad thing for lamela to receive constructive criticism on here. Obviously the "We don't need him " comments are going to far, but the same as been said about Eriksen this year.

I think the thread is better off for having some middle ground rather than just fawning over him or slating him.

My own personal opinion is he will have to play well to get a starting place back but he's more than capable of that and that's not a bad thing. I think he has more in his locker then we've seen so far and competition will help bring that out.

Alli gets an easier ride for no reason other than he has more end product. That's what football is about no matter how much you wish to romanticise about other elements about.

Wasn't Lamela last season our second top scorer?

Possibly. Anyway this has gone off on a tangent, I wasn't the one comparing Alli and Lamela, my point is I want to see more from him and that's all really.

Lol look at last seasons stats. Lamela has plenty of 'end product' - no romanticism there just pure facts.

You mean last seasons stats which have Lamela scoring / assisting roughly once every 2.5 matches while Eriksen and Alli achieved this better than once every 2 matches in the league?

Lamela has decent output, better than players we've had in years gone by and enough to consider him useful to us. He'd probably be a star in a mid table side, for us he's someone who is an option for certain situations but as yet not particularly eye catching other than in fleeting moments.

The game that stood out for me was the away game at city that was evenly poised until Lamela came on. That run and the perfect pass to Eriksen. That was the performance made the squad believe that we could challenge for the league. And he was the one determined to make it happen.

But this goes back to my original point - what he currently lacks in his goal and assist stats he more than makes up in his pressing, intensity and creative play - which he excels at. His other qualities - which are more intangible - are equally important to the overall make up of the team.

100% can't understand the detractors he's amazing for us but mostly in areas that don't get him recognised. when he was getting subbed for son it showed to our detriment. At times I couldn't understand why he always got subbed and you could see how disappointed he was with it. Verts or Toby recently commented how much he means to the team and he adapts and learns - http://www.spursfanatic.com/blog/secret-success-erik-lamela/ - a good example of his offensive improvements. Seems some people will never get him

Been out for a while now, having him back fit for the last 15 games or so of the season will be great for us. A quality player and much needed for the run in.

Thanks mind was a bit blurry on the details. Judging on the number of replies and disagrees, dislikes, doh's this guy has a cult following. :nailbiting:

It's very easy to dismiss opposing ratings as that, but it is evident that you have either not read or totally ignored much of the counter argument to your claims, I.e. his goals per game ratio is a little better than 1 in 3 and his assist ratio even better. You might not rate him, but to dismiss the disagreement of others as a "fanboy" petulance is arrogant in the extreme.

What is evident is that posters like yourself and that lampwit francis gibbs had your minds made up on him and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change that. No matter how much he offers, it will never be enough for you.

What I find interesting is that you "haters" (in inverted commas because it is being used generically for those who don't rate him) were completely silent when he hit form and was integral to the manner in which we played, unless it was to bitch about him being a "Red card waiting to happen" every time he picked up a Yellow. Interestingly enough he's never had a Red and never even accumulated enough Yellows for a game ban, so another fallacy peddled by the "haters" as an excuse to have a pop at him.
Now he's out for a bit, and the tin foil hat brigade are blurting out their bilge, you lot feel safe in gunning for him again. After all, it's not like he's on the pitch to prove you wrong, so you're feeling pretty safe hey?

I'm one of those that championed Lamela when many were calling for him to be sold. Because I was a fanboy? Fucking right! He's a Spurs player, I'm a fanboy off ALL of them. I also recognised that he has immense talent and needed a run in the middle of the park to give him the best opportunity to show it. Lo and behold he did it. Not only that, he showed immense desire to improve and worked his chads off to do so. His turnaround in form was primarily due to his desire to improve and, for that alone, he should be praised to buggery.
He also seems to get very little appreciation for his creative spark, with many more interested in what goes wrong than what goes right. His forward play is high risk, high reward. The fact that he has so many assists shows that his approach pays dividends. There are few goals against that have been attributed to him turning over the ball, which suggests the rewards far outweigh the risks.

This doesn't fit the narrative though, so let's ignore it.

The boy can improve, on that I think everyone can agree, but a disagree, particularly when a reasoned argument is presented to back it up, does not merit being labelled as a "fanboy," it's a lazy dismissal that earns the disdain it gets.

Good job we ditched Modric then, far less end product than Lamela.
