He gives it a lot more then he gets. For a pretty boy he's a hard man on the pitch. There are some tough nuts developing in this team especially seen in the Chelsea game. Walker, Rose, Lamela, Dier, Demeble, Verts...not prepared to give an inch. And of course not forgetting Dele.
Toby and Kane are no shrinking violets either.

He'll be very important to keep. Of all our players, he's the one that always steps up in the big games and never hides. More or less the only one that were at the races in the games after Chelsea.

Exactly. Even when he was still finding his feet, during his first 2 seasons he never hid. It's amazing quality to have and why he's emerged as a nailed on starter. I'm astounded he still has his critics tbh.

I mean, the guy isnt perfect - no one is. There are still things he could do better. Its just a shame that one cant discuss those things without offending people and being singled out as a hater

Dude I have no problems discussing those with you and most posters on the board.
There are one or two who can't except they may have rushed there judgement though.

Thats fair.

I definitely rushed my judgement to a degree at first.

I do think most of the things i pointed out that frustrated me were valid at the time and I will admit that i was hugely frustrated by the player (not by the price tag). This season however he has been a breath of fresh air and has certainly shown that he is a do'er and is essential to the team.

I do get what @JUSTINSIGNAL was saying and no one should be doubting his contribution to the side.

That being said it doesnt astound me that he still has his critics - along with the rest of the team, he was as much a part of our victories as he was our losses and he definitely has aspects of his play that could be improved upon.

Id still rather he didnt get booked so often so he could be more effective for entire games.
His overall pass completion could be better too, especially crosses and longer balls.

Not having a go at all, I could write lists for each player. I just dont think he is a perfect all round player and I still feel he has a bit to go with his offensive play before I consider him to be up there as one of the best AM in the world.... despite what that football observatory article says.

In conclusion. love the guy, epitome of what a team player should be - cant wait to see his further progression next year

Theres only a certain few who are singled out as haters because they go overboard on their criticism and still havent come around on him yet.

But the overall attitude towards him on the board has done a complete 180 simce a year ago this time. Even from the end of the window last summer with the papers trying to push through a move out to like the winter window, the fans attitudes completely changed. And it is great to see the majority finally come around to what me and a few others have been saying all along on Lamela. He's a tenacious little fucker that never stops off the ball, and on the ball, he's an incredibly quick thinker and insanely clever.

He can increase his goal/assist output definitely, but i dont think i'd put it all on him that it was only 4/9 in the league this year. He's definitely been a victim of both our poor finishing and Kane's selfishness. He's had alot of bad luck and unfortunately, it cost us points. Yes, he probably should have added a few goals off his shots that somehow hit the post, though. Has to do better there. It's been a majority of bad luck though. If everything went his way, he probably would have had at least a 10/15 goal to assist ratio and in the running for player of the season while we won the league. But it wasnt to be.

Hopefully the team learns from this and next season we're more clinical and Kane is better with finding teammates in better positions. The team would be much better for it but Kane would probably add a few more goals and assists to his game. If you are able to find your teammates in the box, defenses will have to pay alittle more attention to them, thereby opening space up for Kane to get into better positions to score.

The important thing is that he improved greatly as the season progressed, IMO he had a great end to the season. You can now see that he feels he belongs on the pitch and in the team and it bodes very well for next season.

Sooo... @UpTownSpur:

Football isn't baseball and assessments of players, particularly creative/flair players, is best done with direct observation and only using stats as supporting evidence.

From direct observation and allowing supporting stats, lamela: (a) was a good signing?, (b) is a good player?, and (c) is one of our most important players now?
