“Why haven’t I returned to Serie A? I’ll be honest, there wasn’t much missing. I was very close to Italy, but my will never changed and I always wanted to wear the Tottenham shirt.

“Of course, the first year didn’t go well from a personal point of view, but I never gave up and I always had London in my head.

“I went to a club which has always helped, supported and respected me. I’m good in London, and that’s the most important thing.”

Would like to see him play behind Harry, but I'm aware that it then becomes tricky with the shape of the team.
Yes, he's looked great there
But I think it kinda works for us because during some of the games, he often is behind Harry and Eriksen drifts over to the left with Dele Alli out on the right.

I didn't get it for ages, but it's amazing to watch (live) when it works - the three behind Kane rotate around superbly and you'll never find two of them crowding out each other in the same "channel" towards goal.

The tactics may not always work against some teams, but the way in which Lamela, Eriksen, Alli, Son and to a lesser extent Chadli and Onomah did this was superb.

I don't think anything has given me more pleasure than to see Lamela come so good after his initial few years at the club. He looked lost in those early days...the proverbial fish up a tree. His alleged near transfer to Marseille, at the beginning of last season, was almost the end for him here. He stuck it out, much to his credit, and now he's probably one of the first names on the team sheet. Passion, effort, hard graft, skill, technique...and can score goals. The complete package in my opinion.

I think he's only going to get better and better over the next few years...especially with the quality of players we have around him on the pitch.

This is a true Poch success story.

Another good season and we'll find some bastard teams try to pry him away.

Two years left on his current contract so hopefully he signs a new one soon. Think he had a great 15/16 season and has looked fantastic in preseason. My favorite player based on his effort and skills.

Sky Sports News showed a graphic of players coming to the Premier League from Serie A (Shevchenko, Veron, etc) after the Pogba deal was announced in the early hours of this morning.

The presenter then caught me off guard by referring to Lamela as the only player within that list to have lived up to expectations. I was under the impression that he was still viewed as a flop by anyone outside of THFC.

I assume it'll be back to reality when Soccer Saturday starts; Jeff Stelling got in a few good digs last year, even when he was announcing a Lamela goal or assist.

Holy shit, a possibly informed person at Sky?

The hype around him is gone because people have forgotten his price tag.
He doesn't need to prove himself anymore. He looks more direct; might score more goals.

If we weren't confident that he'd sign a new contract, we'd probably sell him this summer. Same with Vertonghen and Eriksen. But that's obviously not going to happen.

Perhaps it took a while to come good but he is proving himself to be a real class act. I'm going Lamela over Eriksen and Alli in the fantasy line up this year.:)

Me too - at only 7mil he is a bargain and hopefully will wipe the smirk of my colleagues at work who dont every watch any football other than their own teams and who know nothing about Erik's impending rise to the very top!

Yep I've got him in my fantasy team too, reckon he'll get close to 10 league goals this year.

In the summer he will only have 1 year left
So in the middle of a successful season where we can't bring in a replacement we should sell him? Sell him next summer or let him walk for free, I'd rather have a key player staying with us if it helps us win.

Did mine today, could only have 3 from a single team. Ugh. Stumped for Lloris because of our defence, kane because of he's kane and lamela because i really think he will smash it this season
