Bit of Spurs news: Lamela is contracted until 2019, not 2018, so no rush on new deal. Talks expected this year.

While Spurs are in currently locked in contract talks with Christian Eriksen, they are in less of a rush to secure the long-term future of Erik Lamela. The Argentine midfielder is Spurs’ all-time record signing, arriving along with Eriksen in the summer of 2013.

Lamela was initially thought, like Eriksen, to have signed a five-year deal that would expire in the summer of 2018, less than two years away. But The Independent has learned that Lamela’s Tottenham future is in fact secured until 2019. His initial four-year deal had two option years which have been activated.

This means that Lamela is signed up for another three years at White Hart Lane, removing the pressure for any imminent renegotiations. The club are expected to begin talks with Lamela over a new long-term deal later this season.

He's gone from looking like a skinny lesbian to the love child of Cristiano Ronaldo and Cristiano Ronaldo.

I actually think that the impending arrival of Nkoudou makes a lot of sense. We all agree that Eriksen needs direct competition in the AM position and Lamela has shown how good he is when played in the middle. Nkoudou will free up Lamela to play centrally imo.

Absolute quality. Drive determination and never hides even when things arent going his way he will always track back and put his foot in. Love him and is slowly becoming a real driving force behind our side. His passion at the everton goal is fantastic and that would inspire the rest of the players. That and the danny rose story fills me with such pride and shows his winning mentality. Not happy being second best. Winner!

"We hope so. I think so," said Pochettino, when asked if Lamela was in line for his best campaign since he joined Spurs.

"He is always open, he's an energetic player, he shows passion in every training session. He loves football, which he shows every day. He's desperate to run, to play, to take the ball, and that's a good thing.

"Erik needs to feel free on the pitch. Erik is not a player that you need to put in a box and you play here and you do this and that. He needs to feel free in his mind and move freely and for this reason we need to work a lot in the team to try to synchronise the movement. If not, it's difficult to move altogether and create space and play like a team.

"Erik is a good example [of a versatile player] because he can play in different positions but the most important thing is that he needs to play with freedom on the pitch"

Swoon
