Player Watch: Gareth Bale - Retires

I'll be honest - the CL final loss and consecutive poor last season had me kind of "meh" on the whole football thing. Don't get me wrong, I've still been watching every game but I've just not been as enthusiastic about it all the past year. Haven't even been around SC as often as I used to be.

Now though? I'm fucking mashing that F5 refreshing SC while I should be working, looking up youtube videos of Gareth Bale, and imagining how good we'll be this season with Bale and the other new signings in the team. If this isn't Levy backing his man then nothing is.

It's certainly got my imagination going. So excited! Can't wait for Bale to pull on the lilywhite again.

If he's fit enough to feature in most games his long shots are going to be his most useful weapon. If we become lethal on the counter you'll start to see teams sitting back, and with his shooting at the edge of the area opponents will find it difficult to stop us that way as well. We've had plenty of games under Mourinho that have been reminiscent of games under Villas-Boas where we're chasing it but not getting anywhere with sideways possession, but Bale will help us to win points in these scenarios like he did 7 years ago, i've got no doubt.

Plus a serious threat from free kicks - Bale and Eriksen are the only players I can remember scoring 2 direct free kicks in a game for us. Fouling us on the counter to stop an attack might be punished more frequently, which will hopefully put defenders in doubt even more.

Feel very much the same. Found us hard to watch under jose and my enthusiasm has taken a very serious hit. But the thought of these 2 in the team has got my juices flowing again!

Wasn’t there a lot of talk a couple of years ago that one of the reasons they thought he was getting injured so much was that they were trying to get him to bulk up too much? Supposedly Wales had gone to Real Madrid to disagree with their approach. Always have to take these things with a pinch of salt of course.
