Im going to keep repeating this and keep getting slaughtered. Bale is a shadow of the player he once was and he is not what we should we looking for when trying to progress.

Why do you need to keep repeating it if you have already made your point?

If anything, Son would be the striker, Bale would play either side of Son surely.

If we play Son up top we will struggle. He has no physical presence and is better suited as a wide forward.

It has to be Vinicius with Bale and Son but I have a sinking feeling its going to be Lucas and Bale will be on the bench.

I'm back again. Hello. I bet you are already reaching for those stupid buttons next to my post because you can't take the truth when pointed out to you by someone like me.

Well, another cowardly performance from our coach. He doesn't put Bale on when Kane is injured at half time? Bringing on Lamela for Kane and Winks for Aurier: in my reckoning two players who have a net position on the pitch further back than those they replaced. Not to mention both were terrible and didn't give the stability he hoped for. Mourinho needs to sort out his continence and have a fucking go.

When Bale does get on he gets 10 minutes, at which point we have already lost. Liverpool just passing it for fun at that stage. All perceived fears that we were dangerous in the 1st half, had faded. Look dangerous, and you get more respect, more time on the ball. The converse is true. As a result we had about 20 touches in the last 10 minutes including Lloris'. Here you go Gareth, throw a bullseye with this single dart... Oh you missed, yeah.... guess you don't really deserve to play then.

Oh wait, so he's no good in training - he's got to earn his place there. 'You don't understand the whole picture, man'. Well, I guess Ledley King would never had been selected then - which is ironic given that he's now on our coaching staff, in training.

Fact is if you can get Bale as good as he can be again, you have a contender for the best player in the league. I'm not saying it would happen, but there is a chance, and to not even try it is pathetic and truly damning on our coach. How many players have you ever seen get better with game time? Countless is the answer if you've watched any football. How high is Bale's ceiling? It's stratospheric. Yeah let's not bother trying though, huh.

You see Bale might have been betrayed by Mourinho( I'm sure Bale didn't imagine this treatment after his phone call with Mou pending his transfer) but he's been betrayed by you, the fans, too... All of you who were so happy to see him 'come home'. Well where the fuck are you now when he needs your help? You should be clamouring to get him on the pitch, but you can't even make a mildly loyal forum post on his behalf. Utterly pathetic from the 'fans' on here too.

This Kane injury, out for a few weeks, might just force Mou's hand but I wouldn't rely on our stupid coach given what we've seen from him so far.

You might think life would be simple being right about everything, but I can tell you it gets tiresome when you see so much misguided opinion in the world. Peace out.

Apart from the Wycombe game what have you seen from Bale when he's been given a chance that makes you think he should be picked in the starting eleven?

hmmm maybe the game against fuckknowswho from Europa when he scored (sort of) that amazing free kick and gets subbed off at half time? We haven't been able to take a decent direct free kick for about 4/5 years btw.

There was that nice header in the prem, but apart from that I can't think of any times, because he hasn't been given any.

'Doesn't want to play striker? Well, I don't want to pay him £1,000,000 a month to watch from the sidelines and amble about when he's given a chance. Perhaps Mourinho will remember we got him Vinicius off the top of his list to play striker anyway.

Yeah I was a bit confused by the quotes:

"I don't think he's a striker, I don't think he likes to play as a striker. It was something we spoke about when he joined us," Mourinho said.

"He was very objective with me, saying he doesn't feel he's a left winger like he was before or a No 10 like he was."

"The position that he likes to play is the position we are playing him every minute we give him which is the right side of the attack."

I assume the likelihood is that Son moves centre, Bale might play right, and someone else on the left. But you'd hope the natural swap is Vini for Kane

Just my onions. Bale was a PR coup. But we’ve discovered why he was benched at Real. Hasn’t offered anything new or exciting for spurs; sad to say

Thats not really true though is it? He's definitely had some time as he's had over six hours of football in the Europa League and the only thing that's impressed you is a freekick against Antwerp? If you think he deserves to start then you must have seen more in those games than just a free kick?

Didn’t Bale say at the start of the year that he’d play anywhere? Or am I imagining that? Tough to imagine a world where Jose plays Bale up top and Bale says ‘nah gaffer I don’t fancy it’.

this is typical Jose. Dig the player so that, if it doesn’t work out, the blame will be deflected.

He was benched at Real before he scored two goals in the final and he was benched afterwards

Ok you are being really silly now. Has it occurred to you that any number of hours in Europa League might not tell you jack shit. I mean people said after Wycombe, 'but it's not prem defenders, of course he can run through them'. Well, the standard in Europa was absolute shit but for whatever reason I don't remember that bringing out the best in any of our players. Even when we had to bring on the 'big guns' they failed to impress in these games. In fact I can't remember Bale being given 'a chance' (as you would interpret it), and someone else on the pitch doing noticeably better than him. We do have a shit coach remember who's more preoccupied with limiting the oppositions chances than how we are actually going to play. He might just need some love and appreciation to get that motivation and confidence back.

Both Son and Kane are capable of being totally anonymous for 90 minutes. Next match they are given the opportunity to go again. Give Bale the security of a 1st team place, surrounded by the best players we have and let's see what comes of it. He bloody well deserves it, and the rewards could be massive. At least there would be something to hope for. Ahhh shit, you're right - much better to play two holding midfielders or 5 at the back!

So just the free kick then. You want him picked on reputation because he's Gareth Bale. Fair enough if that's how you feel.

I've been saying that we need to be patient with him, that it might take a while for him to get up to speed again as he missed preseason, but he also needs to take his chance when it's given this him. He clearly didn't do that in the Europa League, because you can only point to one free kick in six hours of football, but he looked good against Wycombe when he was taking people on, shooting more and making good runs. Hopefully we'll see more of him in the league soon and he can start to really influence games in the league.

And yes I have considered that a player might look better in a settled team, I said the same thing in Vinnie's thread a few days ago.

Bale will come through - it's like a new league to him after being away so long. He's also been injured and had such little game time before coming back... I can understand how the Chris Christie sized expectations of the man can even make the Dalai Lama impatient (yes, he called!)... BUT there's still plenty of season, plenty of comps to go and he'll be right back to trailblazing form!

He's definitely short on confidence in his own ability to beat a player. He's still pretty graceful at times, he just doesn't have that quick burst he once did, obviously. I hope he can find some form during this time Kane is out, we desperately need him to. I still think Son, Vinicius and Bale is a formidable front 3 (I'm not as down on Vinicius after one bad performance as some others).

Hope Bale gets a run in the team now Kane is injured think he needs 4/5 game run to see if he still has it. If Jose doesn’t give him a chance now what was the point of signing him?

Would either like him to play on the right with Vinicius at CF and son on the left or in the Kane role with son upfront
