But I think what you are saying is a problem. We massively overhyped our own players and then when they don't perform to these expectations, we either then criticise them or try and blame everybody else but them.
I don’t think we overhype our players at all to be honest. Quite the opposite in fact.

I'm not sure.

Lo Celso is very tenacious and gets stuck in, he's played in deeper midfield roles too, he's not afraid to tackle.

Is a midfield 3 of Bissouma, Lo Celso and Maddison any more lightweight than Rice, Havertz and Odegaard which Scum are almost certainly going to play as a 3? Or when City in the past have played Rodri, De Bruyne and Silva in a midfield 3?

I accept in tough away games or against certain top opponents at home we may want to add a more rounded 8 like Bentancur or Sarr instead of Lo Celso or Maddison for extra durability and protection in transition, but there will be a lot of games where we could play Bissouma, Lo Celso and Maddison to break teams down and dominate with the ball.

Maddison and Lo Celso don’t have the athleticism of debruyne or havertz. Yes there is an argument we could risk it against low block team but against sides that kill you on the transition you need an 8 in there that will have the athleticism to win physical duels.

Based on what thought? Lo celso is mobile and presses well. You obvs would start him and maddison away at top sides but you could play both agsinst low blocks and have a lot of creativity. It all depends on cbs though as I think you’d need to form a back 3 with pace when we have the ball.

It isn't GLCs work rate, tenacity, or his defensive actions which are the problem. These are all more than decent.

It's his ability to frequently to cover large amounts of ground with high intensity runs.

Both to make up the extra man in the box, and to be the 4th man to recover our defensive shape in the 1st phase of transitions.

This ability doesn't have to just be good in our system and structure, it has to be elite.

I'm not sure.

The trouble with comparing these CM3s in a vacuum is Arsenal play with one more defensive FB. So do City. They can quickly group 4 defenders in transition until help arrives.

We're playing very high up the pitch with BOTH FBs inverted and pushed up alongside Bissoma.

There are acres of space behind our FB which the CBs need to cover, and so the DM and pressing 8 need to sprint back to cover the space until we recover our team shape.

This is why I believe he started Sarr in the role, and GLC played in Maddison's role.

When we're chasing a game and taking risks against low blocks (with less counter threat), then a GLC Madds CM3 is a great option.

We can also get away with it a little more maybe by only playing ONE inverted FB.

Nice extract from Golds latest article

Despite fitting the Postecoglou system, the expectation was that he would return this summer and as one of the few players with a bit of interest in him from Spain and in the Premier League, would be sold to raise some funds towards other areas.

Instead Postecoglou took a liking to the Argentine from the early days of training. The Lo Celso who has returned to Tottenham is seen as a different person to the one who left in January 2022.

Back then he was quiet, more withdrawn and would mostly stick within his group of fellow Argentines. The years have naturally matured him as has fatherhood, with his partner giving birth to a little girl in November last year.

Those within Spurs have remarked how the Lo Celso on tour in Australia and Asia is a far happier individual, more outgoing and also, perhaps most importantly, eager to please.”

As much as that midfield looks sexy on paper it will get run through by any competent hard pressing opposition. Need a box-to-box option as one of the 8s. Sarr or Bentancur when he’s back.
Yeh, but think there will be times for it too. Either against weaker teams that are sitting back against us, or on the flip when we really need to get back in a game. I think we have a group of midfielders that can give us a lot of different options.

Ally Gold confirming old ITK about his behavior issues, hopefully his maturity level helps him get to another level professionally.

This could be a game changer for us this season if this is all true. Sure, this is Spurs, so something, or someone (you know who I'm talking about), will probably still fuck it up, but still...it's the hope that kills you

Again it all depends on your back 4. If you have 3 cbs sitting, 1 who steps up to kill the transition combined with bissouma and the other two with real pace covering runs then it can work very well. The way city have done it with basically 4 cbs all with pace.
We could emulate it with Emerson Romero and vdv, maybe even playing tapsoba too but that would be a defensive back 4 leaving you with your 8s, and front 3 to provide goal threats.

Go back quite a few pages and I'm on record as saying we should cash in on him, not least because he clearly doesn't want to be here and we need to bring in players that do. Personally I think we thought we were bringing in a cultivated playmaker when we bought him but we got a running, hustling passing moving player and he suffered for that.
I'm as surprised as anyone if we've turned this around and he is happy and wants to stay but if so and Postecoglu wants him to stay all well and good.

Lo Celso gets credit for the goal, but it was a nice read by Ndombele to make the run, point out the pass, and then cut it back to Lo Celso for the easy goal.
Shock our 2 big money midfield signings from a few years ago actually both look like good players when played in a possession based creative free attacking system just as they were intended when poch bought them!

Love to see it.

I appreciate the sentiment but I'll need more than that clip to be sure.

You come to that conclusion by a 10 sec clip of a training session on a small pitch? Both need to show their worth in competitive matches by stepping up on a reliable basis whether the sun is shining or not. Have some faith in Gio but honestly less in Tanguy. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

Yeah, but it’s against our defence - anyone can look good playing against them… ;)

I mean if behavioural issues are being shy, withdrawn or socially anxious then no wonder we can't get the best out of players at the club. Not a shock we weren't able to help dele.
