Yes, it is bc the "disaster" are nowhere near as often as some people say they are for one, and two, it's coming after a mistake where he made a decision that he would have quite literally made 100 times before for us, and only on a handful of those has he got it wrong like he did against PSV. It's a decision that saves goals and games far more regularly than it costs them.

It's just the nature of the best when it comes to sweeper keeping. When he does it and saves it just gets forgotten, but the rare time it's a mistake we have all the reactionary melts come out.

There is. The forrmer is accurate, the latter is pathetic reactionary hyperbole. Difference.

I can. A majority of the time he is a safe pair of hands these days.
That's just not true. I believe he had one of the highest errors leading to goals in the PL last season, along with Cech, who's been put out to pasture now. This is a massive test for Poch. The goalkeeper is such a crucial part of a team - you can see the difference it's made to Liverpool this season. Either he's got to find a way to restore Lloris' confidence and security, or he's got to make a hard decision for the future.

There's a huge difference between "having a mistake in him" and making costly mistakes every few games. Some people want to stick their head in the sand, and think back to his better days, fine. But no-one can tell me that he's a safe pair of hands these days.

The point is I don’t think he ever was truly a safe pair of hands. He’s always had a blunder every few games. Sometimes he’s got away with it, at the moment he’s making more mistakes sure, but he’s clearly having a tough time. I’d imagine Poch understands that his philosophy is that we win as a team and lose as a team.

Could easily have been Toby that cost us last night, or Dembele could have been sent off.

We won’t find anyone better than Hugo.

Fact of the matter is that goalkeepers shouldn't cost you games - they should at a minimum keep you in the game, and the very top keepers actually win you games. Lloris, unfortunately, has progressively gotten slightly worse for each year these past 2-3 years. Shame we weren't in for the Ukrainian young guy that went to Real. Andriy Lunin. Looks like a solid talent, could have been perfect for us to rotate with Lloris and later on take the nr 1 spot.

Yes mate. That one that didn’t have loads to do in the World Cup final and still gave away a goal. He’s capable of great moments but is to often capable of fuck ups. Like I say I doubt we could afford better but let’s not kid ourselves that we have one of the best anymore.
He made some cracking saves in the final. And throughout he tournament. One against Uruguay was absolutely world class.

It’s his decision making that seems to have deteriorated rather than his shot stopping. That’s strange because you’d expect that to get better with age.

He's got the yips with regards to coming out. Completely lost his bearings and doesn't know whether he's Arthur or Martha.

I'll take the less popular route - I don't think Hugo made a mistake in coming out last night. It almost certainly saved a goal in a 1-goal match. And, we should have been able to hold on even with 10 men.

The risk of letting the play develop into the box would have been a goal conceded and/or Pen conceded - neither were good outcomes.

Spur of the moment decision, and I think it was the correct decision under the circumstances.

I'll agree with you that I don't really blame Hugo for the red last night. Lozano might well have gone through and scored had he not taken him out. The errors all came higher up the pitch, from Eriksen, and the fact there was no-one shielding the back four when we were trying to close a game out. It should have been taking one for the team for Hugo, which let us see out the result.

These non-believers have already made up their mind. They are secretly happy whenever the team concedes a goal so they can tell everyone "i told you so". They feel good when the team drops points. And to prove their point, they will tell you how Keeper A , B , C , D are better than a world cup winning kkeeper because of things tthat have fuck all to do with goal keeping. Prime example is distribution

Once again , i would like all the Arsenal and Chelsea bots to stop trolling the forums and social media. Focus on your own team please.

I respectfully disagree in that I just think it was overly rash. Their player still had a lot to do whilst being chased by two defenders. I actually just watched it again and I'm convinced that at least one of Sanchez or Alderweireld would have caught him to at least apply pressure, he was fairly far away from goal still with them both chasing him. The further back Lloris was the more work he would have had to have done. Spur of the moment decision that on this occasion I just think he got wrong, had to read the situation better and trust his centre backs there IMO.
