and bow many times has he played in those 18 months ?

Have moved this to his player thread.

He’s not a new addition to the squad, he’s played numerous times for the first team, and when he’s been fit over the last 18 months he’s either started or been on the bench.

Let’s not pretend he’s a new signing just because we haven’t landed our targets this window.

I live for the day that when the window review happens, that Tanganga, Sessegnon, Skipp and even Dele are not included.

Think he is good against a top 6-10 team where he is solid defensively at RB. However against teams who sit back or the impetus is on us to be the dominate attacking team, he isn’t suited as our RB going forward unless he improves on this.

Tanganga is not a problem. But not a 40 games a season starter either.
The problem is the lack of a convincing alternative. If Serge stays he could be useful against the weaker teams, Doherty is just underwhelming in every aspect of the game.

Would be nice with a new solid RB to rotate with Tangz.

I think he's a horses for courses player. Great at certain things but limited at others.

He's a very useful option to have and has been a prominent part of our 3 clean sheets - especially against City - but yesterday showed his limitations, especially in possession.

I couldn't help but notice how poor his first touch was - almost every time he received the ball yesterday the ball bounced clumsily up off his foot and, particularly in forward areas, this caused problems.

I really hope we can get Emerson over the line as we could really use a more naturally attacking RB in matches like the Watford one.

He's quite similar to Wan Bissaka - defensively solid but limited going forward

If we do get Emerson I think this could make a good pair? One more offensively minded and Tanganga more defensively minded. I think his height hurts him some. If he was 4-6 inches taller he would be much more imposing in the box.

He’s still going to remain first choice RB if we bring in Emerson imo

This is not a knock on Emerson, who looks a solid RB, but I think Tanganga will prove to be that good.

its going to be interesting - Tanga is proving a good defender, strong in the tackle not lacking in pace and decent in the air - he does have his limitations going forward he lacks a bit of quality in that area - the question might be what do you go for defensive strength with Tanga or a full back who might give you more going forward

If we can’t get rid of Serge and assuming that Doherty stays, that will give us 4 RB/RWB and 3 LB/LWB. Jeebus.
I have to believe that Fab has late plans to move one (or MORE) of these on deadline day.

Agree - te's a centre-back playing at right back and it showed on Sunday. He'll never let us down defensively and I think it's useful having a full-back who can compete in the air but we need an option with more attacking quality for the park-the-bus teams.

I expect Nuno will let him hold onto the position for the next few games since it wouldn't be fair to drop him straight away, but long term I fully expect Emerson to be our first choice RB, with Tanganga used as a rotation option against certain teams that suit him.

1st choice, 2nd choice blah blah blah.

No such thing in top clubs.

It's called competition for places & we've spent long enough looking at the (happy) £gazillion benches at the likes of Man City, Liverpoo, United & Chelsea etc to know this for ourselves.

Young Japhet seems to be not just a very promising player, but also a very level headed, intelligent young lad.

He'll know the score & will thrive, in my opinion.

Been couple clips in break of him doing some great attacking work in training. One some link up with Tanguy and great finish, and absolutely roasting Rodon and finishing. If he can add the attacking side to his game what an absolute monster we’d have.
