Really hope he can get more gametime, looks like he deserves it. Surprising he can't make the bench more also.

Think it all depends on who we play to be honest and whether Poch thinks having more midfielders/attackers on bench could be more beneficial than defenders and vice-versa. Would like him to start more games and I think he is a very good back-up. Hopefully starts some more with big run of games coming up.

I honestly don't know how you could possibly complain about his performance yesterday. He played against a side that is fully dedicated to their style of play, that is performing incredibly well in a league where he has had literally no first hand experience up against and did nothing to doubt his ability as a defender. I found it to be an incredibly promising performance.

This is John Crace's assessment of his game on ESPNFC. I don't think he could be more wrong.

DF Kevin Wimmer, 5 -- Given a rare start, the Austrian rarely looked settled or convincing on the ball. There was little sign of any understanding between him and Alderweireld, and his distribution was poor.

That is the most insane thing I've read in my entire life.

There was in fact little sign of any understanding. I completely agree with that.

Then maybe you would consider reading a bit more.

Come on, if you're going to go for some sort of insult, please do make some effort.

But enough about that, how was this lack of understanding evident? Leicester had three situations (that I can remember) where they were threatening. The corner, the situation where Alderweireld was left exposed and got done one on one by Okazaki and the shot from Gray where he got the better of Trippier.

Other than that, there was hardly a single shaky moment, and nothing that I'd say was down to communication problems or the two not being on the same wavelenght.

But what did you think?

The only bad thing with that post, is that Alderweireld looked lost when he had Wimmer next to him, rather than Vertonghen.

You can't expect Toby to have the same level of understanding with Wimmer in their first game together as has with Vertonghen.

Especially as Toby & Jan have played together for Ajax, Belgium and around 25 games for us.

I didn't say they should have the same understanding. I merely stated that Alderweireld was a different player when he didn't have Vertonghen next to him (y)

Unfortunate for Verts but at last Wimmer will get some league games under his belt, If he does well he should keep his place.
