Wasn't worried at all when Vertonghen went off injured, because I knew we had Wimmer to slot straight in. Think that says a lot about how much he's impressed so far.

Hopefully Poch will give him more game time going forward. It helps keep him up to speed when required and keeps Toby and Verts fresh for the run in.

in other news, the chairman of Schalke, Clemens Tonnies, has been speaking to Westfalische Anzeiger about the prospect of signing Spurs defender Kevin Wimmer on loan.
The Austrian international only arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer but he has found chances hard to come by and Tonnies said, “With Wimmer…we are in intensive discussions.”

Hope this doesn't materialize now, with Jan out injured. Besides, Wimmer is too good a player to allow to leave imo.

Not sure why we'd even entertain an approach.

Just a reminder, Wimmer and his team had the 5th best defence in the Bundesliga last season (only conceading 2 goals more then the team who finished second) even tho they finished in the bottom half.

Can't see him being as solid as Vertonghen who has been top class this season. He can't get into the Austria national team so I wouldn't expect him to help us much.

I like him, I'd be gutted to see him leave without a run of games to prove himself. He knows the system and is up to speed with Poch's training methods. It would be a bigger risk to bring a new defender in, in my opinion.

The next 3 games will give us a picture of Kevin's ability along Toby. so get behind the guy and give him all the support he and the team needs in these times. I am sure Poch and his technical team will handle the situation and are prepared for such situations as the league progresses. Total confidence in our manager.

Fucking hell, I do try my best to be respectable to as many on here as possible, but you are taking the piss, big time!

You NEVER have anything good to say about anything, ever!!

Seriously, you're either a fucking Gooner, or one hell of an embarrassing 'supporter'..

What because I have a different opinion. I do post positive things, I only said I don't feel as comfortable with Wimmer. We need Dier at CB instead of him because he lacks experience in this league.

Youth set-up is doomed, despite the head of it all being headhunted by Man Utd, one of the very biggest clubs in world football.

Wimmer not even good enough for Austria, so obviously not good enough for us. And lord knows how many other examples could be brought up?

I'm not the first person to bring up your constant negativity (I believe doom mongering has also been used?) , and I'm almost certain I won't be the last.

It appears nothing about the club is satisfactory for you, yet you proclaim greatness about Man City, Chavs & their academies, despite the fact that they BUY all their youngsters.

You have selective eyesight!

Quite confident that Kev can step in and do a good job replacing Verts, he`s looked solid defensively and appears comfortable on the ball too.

You do realise that is why he back up right? He's been bought to grow and develop at the club. No one is expecting him to come in and start performing as well as an established verging-world class centre back.

On his showing so far though, I would say I have no worries at all. He might not have Jan's class on the ball(who does tbf) but he seems just as solid in the tackle and his positioning.

Gutted Vertonghen got injured, hope he is back within a couple of weeks. Got faith in Wimmer though, like what I've seen of him so far and he looks to have intergrated well within the squad. Come on big Kev we are counting on ya.
Think it will be him and Dier in the Cup and him and Toby in the league.
