I love that he tries nothing special. Not once in the last 3 games have I been worried with him on the ball, and his reading of the game is class. We have 4 very good CB's, 4 very good full backs, and a world class keeper. How did we end up with such an embarrassment of riches in defence?!

He's been great, needs to fix a few things. Such as some of his rash challenges outside the area (hopefully Alderweireld can help teach him the arts) and I noticed a few times he was sitting too deep and played them onside. I think that bit is simply from his Koln days and the more he plays with these guys the more in tune he'll get.

Not an easy job to do at his age, but he's taking his chance brilliantly.

He needs to control himself a bit more and cut out the needless fouls like the one on silva, which I think led to toure hitting the bar

However he has been better than I expected. At the start of the season, I was bit pissed we signed him as he wasn't needed as we had 4CB's already but I didnt really expect Fazio to be pushed out as he was nor Dier to be great at DM(imo better there than he has been at CB)

I do think Poch was wrong for not playing him in the Europa League it did feel like he was blamed a bit for the Arsenal game, which was down to Fazio more imo

Tbf and similar to the Lamela foul I never know how anyone can get out of the way of those. Even Lamela turned instantly to run and get the ball once it went round him and the player just runs into them and it's an immediate foul.

I think Wimmer looks so good and I forgot to mention it after the Watford game but he also has good pace the way he chased down Deeney when he was through on goal. I really like him

He's been superb. I would have to say that despite Vertonghens injury being completely crappy, Wimmers done his part to really not make his absence felt.

Some of the positives:

Wimmer got some much needed experience and more importantly he thrived.

Another example that the system can worK as others slot in to fill a void (Not so sure we could withstand an injury to Toby, though).

And, Vertonghen will likely be pretty close to returning by the time the next PL match rolls around (Feb 28th). No harm done to our Season on the whole.

Did love how Wimmer got his own back on Toure earlier in the first half. Has that bit of nasty in him!

So pleased at how well he has slotted into the team. Was very worried that we would suffer badly because of the absence of Vertonghen, but he's been calm and assured.

I do wonder whether we're going to bring in someone else to do the Dier job or have him make the DM position his own for now and buy a Wimmer 2.0 to backup Alderweireld.

For the Toure foul, I agree that was harsh. But the silva one was where it looked like he did him after silva already lost the ball. He went straight in to him

Poch has definitely added a bit of Argentinian niggle into the Spurs DNA. Know how to look after yourself, stand up for your team-mates, play smart.

Looking like a great signing, nothing spectacular but he looks as though he has been exactly what was required. Far more confident in him than the likes of Kaboul, Chiriches and Fazio although Fazio wasn't as bad as the first two.

I would like us to go for dendoncker from anderlecht
Yeah I've suggested him myself in other threads and so have a few others.

By the sounds of it he does a similar job and he was one of their better players when we played against them. Outshone Tielemans who is their big name youngster in my eyes as well (I do realize Tielemans is younger though).

I think the Toby-Kev partnership will eclipse Toby-Jan over the next few seasons. Jan will be 29 start of next, and he's not one of those defensive general sorts whose force of personality carries them through. Toby's the boss of that and Kev's his new alternative sidekick. Kev will be 23.

Both great LCB options to have. What we need is back-up for Toby.

I doubt he'd be willing to do it, but wouldn't Jan be perfect to do the Dier job in midfield?
