I'd like to give a special mention to Kevin tonight. Much has been said about the Toby and Jan partnership this season and rightly so.

However, Kevin Wimmer stepped in tonight for the injured Vertonghen and hardly put a foot wrong - which has been the case since he joined us to be honest. He's big and strong without being slow and immobile, is comfortable on the ball but most importantly displays good positional awareness and footballing intelligence.

Well done Kevin, keep it up. (y)

Needs to stop making silly fouls though, inviting pressure and long free kicks into our box with those. Could and maybe should have conceded a penalty aswell.

All in all happy with him other then that.

Let's not pretend Vertonghen doesn't do that himself though, or go in for a sliding tackle in midfield only to miss it and give up numbers on the counter.

Not slagging Vertonghen though, obviously a class defender and we've got the best defensive record for a reason, but I think Wimmer is no big downgrade of a player. It's all down to how familiar he and Alderweireld can be with one another.

He's been nothing short of fantastic for us every time he's been asked to play. What a rock he could become for us for many years to come

Haven't missed Jan and if anything we are looking even more solid

Kill me now but this kid is better than Vertonghen. For all his quality Jan still has more errors in him and when the going gets tough he disappears. Wimmer has a tendency to give away silly fouls admittedly but when it comes to the fight he's up for it, and there will be a time shortly when it gets a little rough.Tough as old boots.

I personally think Toby brings out the best in anyone that plays beside him, that's why it has been so easy for Wimmer to step in, not to take anything away from Wimmer though, he has been fantastic since Verts went out.

I genuinely think that when/if Alderweireld and Wimmer hit top chemistry the partnership will be better than his with Vertonghen.

Wimmer isn't quite as good on the ball, but he adds more athleticism and aerial ability. Plus doesn't seem to lose his marker like Jan does at times.

Wimmer had the misfortune of having Fazio as his partner earlier in the season and did very well whilst his CB partner on that night was bloody awful

He's looked really good every time I've seen him. Strong, physical, decent on the ball and reads the game well. I think we should also note that our defense is so good because of the way that the team plays as a collective. I'm pretty sure that there was a statistic recently saying that we allowed the fewest shots at our goal in the league. I think it was 3 per game which while astonishing makes sense really. We just don't give teams the time or space to get shots off because we press so high up and so effectively.

Props to this guy. Only 1 goal conceded in 3 matches, with two away games, including one match against a team with a plethora of attacking talent and one of the best strikers in the world.

I mean, a clean sheet against the likes of Mbokani and Naismith is just remarkable.

He needs to control himself a bit more and cut out the needless fouls like the one on silva, which I think led to toure hitting the bar

However he has been better than I expected. At the start of the season, I was bit pissed we signed him as he wasn't needed as we had 4CB's already but I didnt really expect Fazio to be pushed out as he was nor Dier to be great at DM(imo better there than he has been at CB)

I do think Poch was wrong for not playing him in the Europa League it did feel like he was blamed a bit for the Arsenal game, which was down to Fazio more imo

Did you see the hate Fazio got after the Arsenal match?

I like him.

Incredibly raw but it's not hard to see the talent. Will develop loads playing alongside Toby.

So it turns out we bought two top class center backs in one window for less than £20 mill combined.

I feel like I'm waiting for the punchline because this kind of thing just does not happen to the Spurs I know.

Just think of what this result and performance will have done to the lads confidence. Well done, Kevin.

And City paid double that for a guy who...well we all just saw how Otamendi defends.

I think it makes a huge difference that, finally, after the Ledley injured/fit/injured years, we have a stable pair at CB. Also that we play a left footer CB on the left, and a right footer on the right.

Also, Toby must be one of the best buys in recent years. He's been excellent.
