When it comes to Trippier and his attacking, the more sofisticated stats show that he's very involved in instigating attacks, as in finding teammates in the final third with his passes. On that ranking, he clocks up alongside a lot of creative midfielders. So, he's good at both progressing the ball, and also delivers a mean final ball at times. When he goes on runs in behind and manages to play a first time pass between the goalkeeper and defence (see Allis first goal against Real Madrid at Wembley last year), it's a great weapon.

When he constantly tries crossing from wider positions, it's generally not great, seeing as it's a pretty inefficient way of creating chances.

But I guess his passing from deep is the reason why both England and Spurs (both generally lacking in creative passers) have tried to create systems that he can fit into.

But seeing a physically dominant Walker (who got dogs abuse for having a bad game) chasing Moura backwards and away from goal every time he had the ball made me yearn for the days where we were actually defensively robust at RB.

What difference does it make if he's creating chances through open play or set pieces?
It makes a huge difference - if you are evaluating his effectiveness as a FB. Very few teams can afford to carry a player on the pitch simply because he takes set-pieces.

I'd rather see Eriksen or Lamela take the set-pieces, and get a better FB...

There's probably a reason why he's given set piece duties over Eriksen and Lamela though, if its giving us a source of goals and allowing us to be more creative then that mitigates the issue of his defensive frailties, at least in Poch's eyes anyway.

If we're having to rely on a RB to be a creative source we've got big issues in our attacking setup... oh wait we do.

The link he posted has 9 Full Backs that have created more chances.

I just had a peep. Alarming that in open play our best is Lucas followed by kane both way down the list. Behind Kante, Townsend, Marcus alonso. And that mendy at city is making more chances than the new drop deep and create style play of kane.

Trip is a very good wing back but just an ok full back cannot cope with a top wide player. Martial Sane..Sterling.
If England continue with a back four TAA will take his place by the euros

I’m honestly tired of him
Oh good assist today blablabla he’s average! And the thing I hate most about him is his arrogance, what the fuck was he doing trying to nutmeg in that position, idiot!

Poch will send wrong signals if he keeps playing him, you can’t be this loyal to a average player
This is why I want KWP to start games for us, the more he plays the more his confidence grow and shows his talent

Our main fullbacks (only god knows why they are?) have become such liabilities it's actually incredible. Trippier has absolutely nothing to do in a top 4 club as a starter. As a rotation for playing the lower half is alright, but nothing more. God, he's awful. Davies is just slightly better, he just provides zero going forward and almost zero defensively.

I hope Pochettino doesn't feel he has to play him as a "WC hero" and feels he will upset the natives. (you won't (y))

seems over confident in his ability since he summer.

Needs a massive kick up his arse. I hope Poch absolutely roasted him at the end of the match.

He made a great cross for 2-0 but was a defensive horror show from start to finish.

He doesn't defend well enough to play in a back four, and should only play as WB in a five.

The replays of the nutmeg before the penalties have made me so angry. What an utter tit. You’re Kieran Trippier mate not Marcelo.
