However, typically we have 4/5 extra players in the squad in case of emergencies.

Pau Lopez has always travelled with the team on match days in case of an injury to either keepers. I dont think its anything out of the ordinary to see KWP shirt up

Dude don't spoil the moment! :p

Instead of resorting to options like Dier as back up, how about we keep the best 2
Right backs on the league as it is now. Simple for a supposed big club to do?

Yes he did when we played 4 at the back without wing backs. Now we either play 3 at the back or we play 4 and Dier still drops deep to let the full backs attack. If people thing Trippier is too slow for wing back then Dier....

Dier is not slow.

Dier is probably our fastest player after Walker, Son and Rose. He's also a bloody good crosser of the ball. Still shouldn't play as a wing back, but it's not as preposterous as people make out.

Also, see Walker's starting tonight. He must've fallen out badly with Pochettino.

Dier is simply not an option!! We play with wing backs now, not right backs in a 4. I couldn't think of much worse than Dier as a wing back

Jaysus wept, Millsey...why's it always like pulling teeth with you?

Look, I never said Dier was should be first choice RB! I never said he should even be second choice RB? I never said he was a good option at RB!

I was answering a specific point, viz:

Some folk feared that if we sold Walker it would leave us with Trippier as the only, single and solitary option at RB. I was pointing out that if Walker is sold it will either be because Poch believes KWP is ready to step up - in which case he would be second choice RB (please, try to assimilate this). I then pointed out that as Dier has played at RB, it would give us that as an option, as THIRD choice, just in case. Please, go back and read my post and you will see that this is what I said. If we move KWP up and he doesn't click, we always have Dier, as third option, to fall back on - until the transfer window opens.

Try and look at it this way: If Walker comes out tonight, and is injured. Poch isn't going to have two RB subs on the bench - he may have one, Trippier. If Trippier comes on and is then injured too, what do you think will happen? Will we play without a RB? Will we move Eriksen or someone back there? Or will we move Dier across? We can surmise that it will be the latter. Why can we surmise that? Because Poch has played him there for an extended period before. That is a FACT. I am not stating anything that is not a FACT. Poch has played Dier there as a RB for an extended period. /of! It is a fair surmisation that Dier would be third option at RB this very minute. Is it the best of optins? No...but who said it was? Is it an option I would really like to see happen? No...and I never, anywhere said it was. Should he move up to being second choice? Again, NO...who said he should?

That is the only, single, sole point I was making...if we sell Walker, move KWP up as SECOND option, and it goes wrong for any reason, we have a surmised (because Poch has done it for an extended run before) fall back option of Dier. Only as a third option. And then, only until the transfer window opens, if KWP isn't going to be an option again.

It's not difficult. I never said he should be a RB. I never said we should have him as second choice RB if we sell either Walker or Trippier. I never said Dier is a fantastic option at right back. Solely in relation to the suggestion that if we sold Walker we would only have Trippier at RB, and purely in the sense that KWP would be stepping up, we would also have Dier as a surmised third choice fall back in case anything drastic happened. Which it is a fair surmisation to believe is the case right now...whether you like that or not.

If you choose to see any other player in our squad as a putative third choice at RB such is your detestation of the possibility of him playing there (even though he as done so before), that is your choice - but it is a bit of a bizarre one, TBH.

He was awful today, looked like the Walker of old whereas for most of the season in which he's been brilliant, he's looked like he's believed he's one of the best right backs and had played so IMO.

Like said though, the last 2 games he's looked like the old Walker, clumsy and a bit unsure of himself.

Yet created our best chance and showed some fight unlike a couple others tonight. Nowhere near our worst tonight Imo

Agreed. Eriksen - who has been so good for us recently - had a far worse night than Walker tonight, but will get about 1% of the bashing that Walker is going to be taking in the Match and Ratings threads for the next couple of days.

It seems some must've been listening to Alan Smith and only looking for the negative. Rating the players performance from best to worst Walker would be somewhere in the middle .

No idea why you're getting disagrees. Guess it doesn't fit with the narrative. Dier is one of our fastest players.

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/01/0...astest-player-revealed-yedlin-has-serious-co/

Putting any credence in that is fucking embarrassing. Same metrics were used to claim Jagielka was the prem's fastest player in 2014 - http://talksport.com/football/really-top-10-fastest-players-premier-league-revealed-141028121279.

Anybody that thinks Dier is in our top ten fastest players has no clue about speed and must have some fucked up shit going on with their eyes.

How selfish is it to kick up a fuss about wanting to leave right in the middle of a title chase though. Then follows up with two shite performances. Could he of not waited until the end of the season?

I think he'll be sold and it's because Poch is prepared to let him go for big money. I do think he's replaceable, someone mentioned earlier KWP stepping up... possibly or that someone else is lined up to purchase.
I've always felt that Walker is a defender who too often relies on his pace to get him out of trouble caused by his own poor positioning and reading. He has improved a lot over the last 18 months, but i think much of the talk is hype. Rose is a far better full back in my opinion and its our style of play that allows the two of them to bomb forward and impress, but even going forward walker is limited because he doesn't cross well and delays in possession (rarely crosses first time either).
