I personally want to bench him so we can play 3 5 2 as we look much better when we play it. No disrespect to Moura but he can’t start over son really.
He should be starting over Emerson and Doherty. Lucas never stops working, he loves driving forward with the ball at his feet, and he’s got far more quality in the final third than either of our RBs.

He has all of the qualities that Conte requires of his wingbacks in attack, and he showed in a NLD under Jose in which he had something like 10 tackles that he can defend. I honestly don’t think he’s a worse defender than Reguilon/Sessegnon on the other side of the pitch.

Conte has previous for taking wingers and transforming them into top-class wingbacks. Lucas should be his next project.

There must be a reason he hasn’t tried that experiment yet.

Possibly he hasn't been happy that the 3 CB's and 2 DM's are solid enough to not to have a defender at RWB? Perhaps Benny coming in and Romero coming back might change that. Or maybe it's just not in his thoughts at all.

Just because a player is tenacious, fast and dedicated doesn’t necessarily mean they are adaptable. I’m not entirely convinced that Lucas would be able to get a grasp on the defensive side of things, I also think he benefits from being a bit more free to move inside the pitch and if he was a WB he would have to hug the touch line., ultimately, for me, it’s an interesting concept but I would prefer him as a IF as he is now as that is where he has been flourishing. He’s been arguably our best or second best attack this seas, why move him.

Agree - he has been fantastic this season... and to think people want to shift him to RWB/bench with the arrival of Kulu. Kulu needs to earn his place.
This, one hundred times this.

Lucas is likely our player of the season so far. What the signing of Kulu means is that we now have options. Some games will suit Kulu more than Lucas, sometimes it’ll be good to bring one or the other on to change the game. I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of playing them together behind Kane.

i agree. I never said he should play rwb, I was disagreeing with others. not every right footed forward can be converted.

Fair comment, but Conte apparently had faith in Traore's defensive ability, or potential at least, and I'd rate Lucas ahead right now in that respect.

I think he's been much better than Son for a while now.
Thing about Son is that even when he's shite he's still always got a goal or an assist in him.

Lucas, for all his industry and mad dribbles, still struggles to get on the scoresheet. His output has improved markedly under Conte, admittedly, but he seems to have to be at his best to really impact games.

Very much so. I think Son is still struggling with the after effects of Covid and his new position in the team. Hopefully his time away from training might have helped in both regards. Lucas has played that 10ish position before when he was younger so was always going to find it easier to adapt. Let's hope Son does too.

I dunno, on form Son is a superstar. But any other time he can be woeful.

Like Jose said, ask him about all the goals he doesn't score...

Vs Leicester, he was a monster. Filling in at CM from the attacking position and getting back into attack. Personally, I think he'd be missed if he was used as RWB. He's found his position and I can't see Conte changing it. I was surprised vs Chelsea he didn't use a similar tactic.

Lucas has always been a bit hit and miss, but under conte is finding / has found consistency.

Son aside, noone else has anywhere near his energy and speed combined, around the pitch.

Regardless of position, his professionalism and attitude are sufficient qualities to see him start most games for us, given what we have in the side now.

Has anyone else noticed that Lucas Moura never takes the knee before matches? It's just a half-hearted mini-squat. I know that he's got pretty questionable political opinons because of his support for President Bolsonaro.

I've always believed it's an individual's choice to make regarding taking the knee. I'm fine with there being an opportunity at the start of every game to do so, but it should be down to every individual if they want to partake in it or not.

Yeah I’ve also noticed that, thing that gets me is that he semi squats. He neither kneels or stands, it’s sorta in the middle. Everyone is entitled to stand or knee and he’s not the only one, I think Zaha stands as well? Could be wrong, but I just don’t get why he does it the halfway. I guess it’s not really for us to know.

Why does it matter?

The guy never gives anything less than 100% when the whistle is blown & that's all that matters.
