Arsenal still haven't signed Rice.
Man City still haven't signed Gvardiol
Man United still haven't signed Onana
Chelsea still haven't signed Caicedo

Etc...

There's delays/things to cross etc... in every single transfer and some get done simpler and quicker than others. Sure, this is one we 'need' so should be pushing it through faster but United bloody need a goalkeeper but they still haven't sorted out there's. These things happen.

Did we not have similar with Porro in Jan when we (this forum) started to panic but it got done in the end

To me, the transfer market seems to be going through a bit of a change. Generally, transfer fees aren't what they were, clubs are looking to get business done early (even us :nailbiting:) and it seems to me there's a bit more of a domino effect with some deals than there usually is. I'm guessing, but seeing as the thing is going through a change, clubs are being more careful in how deals are structured, payment schedules are more important, or being mentioned a lot more frequently than before and generally, clubs are taking time and care to make sure deals are right for them. This is why we're seeing some deals seemingly take a while to go through. Of course we'll get the odd megadeal done or other deals done quickly, there'll probably be a bit of a last minute scramble somewhere (aka DanielCOYS time) but overall, until clubs settle on the best way to operate or get used to it, we might see stuff like this for a while.

All IMO and bollocks guesswork of course :D

Having said that, we do seem to be at a place now where if this doesn't go through, the follically/vertically challenged one is going to be put into virtual stocks and have rotten fruit thrown at him.

Maddison cut his break short to come in for the medical and get it all done. If there was a will to get it done on all sides it'd be done.

Given his missus was just about to give birth I doubt they had gone anywhere, whereas Micky may be off on proper holiday somewhere.

the problem is everything gone quiet after BEN and D1 said the deal is done a few days ago
Yes but look across at our neighbours, Rice has seemingly been done for a long time and still not announced, same with Timber.
Like alluded to by A&C some deals despite being 'done' are taking significantly longer than before. Maybe, because clubs are restructuring things differently there is more to look into as part of the contract and therefore legal delays, who knows?

We don't know where Wolfsburg stand. Maybe they're after a particular player and don't want it known that they have X amount sewn up from selling VdV. That's one of about 100 scenarios that could be causing a delay.

This may be an utterly ridiculous thing to suggest but:

He was captaining Netherlands U21s only 3 weeks ago. He then came to London and met with Ange and - it would appear - agreed personal terms about 2 weeks ago. Maybe he’s now on holiday and he gets his medical and is all confirmed some time next week?

His last match for Netherlands was on June 27th. According to FIFA rules he has the right to 3 weeks off. Most probably he is back from his break on Tuesday. I would guess it is very likely that something will be communicated before his return to training with Wolfsburg.

Might not be the case but certainly not a ridiculous suggestion.

Some of our players are on the way down, some on the way up- and coaches can’t always turn your wet water into wine.

Besides, there’s no getting away from Dier and Davies being less mobile than they were two years ago
I fully agree with you that changes are required my issue with the original posters comment was the blame for the 63 goals conceded lied purely at the feet of the defence at least that what was implied.

There were other contributory factors which were being overlooked completely.

Example.. in midfield we were completely over run game in and game out with a midfield 2.

The system deployed and the toxicity of how they were being managed.

Now I'm not advocating that we keep everyone of them... I just didn't agree that our defence was completely useless and all 63 goals was their doing. More personnel needed to be held accountable.

We had the same for Solomon also. Just seemed to take a few extra days even after it was done, then medical pushed back and done, and still a few more days on top of that.

It could be because of international clearance, contract reviews, to name a couple of things

I'd imagine a transfer is incredibly complex.

Is this really a big problem? It's quite consistent isn't it? We got Vicario and Maddison done pretty quickly.

I wouldn't over analyse or criticise at this point.

Now...if we end up losing the deal because we procrastinate, that's a different point. But at this point I wouldn't stress

Really.hope we get this one over the line.

Young, left footef and quick. Lots of potential and we need someone faster at CB if we are going to play a highet line.

Left footed CB are rare, so worth paying a bit extra for this level of potential.

Also that 63 goals was largely skewed after Conte left. He had a very specific way of playing which required everything in place. Our goals conceded wasn't that bad when he was here. When he left Stellini went and changed the system to try and play a different way and we got hammered. Mason took over and also tried a different way but we were leaking goals for fun for a few games. We conceded 12 in 3 games before it steadied a bit.

I'm hoping it will help simply dropping 1 of the centre backs in favour of an extra midfielder. Our central midfield is a higher level compared to defence so I think they will take control of games better. We definitely need another 2 CB or 1 at the very least. However with no Europe hopefully we can have a consistent pairing for a run of games this season. We didn't have much runs with the same group of 3 at the back last season and when there's 3 it's more likely 1 will be missing at certain points.

Encouraging to me that Liverpool were allegedly in for this guy.

Generally speaking, they're no mugs when it comes to transfers.
