Could be a negotiating ploy to pressure Leverkusen to agree the Tapsoba deal, we have moved on and now see this as more likely so we are getting ready to pull the trigger, or we could genuinely be aiming to get both. Who knows?

Havent seen this many leaks since the Redknapp days. We seem to be playing the media differently this window.

Same, on the flip side id be pretty underwhelmed if we ended up with VDV and Lenglet.
We absolutely must sign a defender who is a bona-fide upgrade and slots in next to Romero as first choice.

Van de Ven is a great understudy/rotation option but isn't the answer we need from the get-go unlike Tapsoba.

Could be fastest player in our team when/if he joins. Certainly close to the top anyway.

Well we certainly need a CB this week, Ange needs time with them and the others are clearly not fancied,

Perhaps we have decided to force Van de Ven now and continue talking to Leverkusen about Tapsoba to see ion we can reduce the fee, if not we move onto Tosin? But there isn't as much of a rush after bringing in Van De Ven.

hmm. would be underwhelmed with de ven + tosin/lenglet, to be honest. not a clear upgrade to the first XI

Yeah, I think this is a fantastic deal for a player with a really high ceiling IF we sign a more proven defender ready to immediately slot into the team. I actually think Van der Ven as a sort of narrow LB with Porro bombing forward from RB could work really nicely, but again leaves us needing a proper LCB like Tapsoba to come in.

I'm all for signings like Solomon if it means we don't go for the cheaper options in key areas. If Van der Ven is the cheaper option to Tapsoba then we're still going to be leaking goals next season. If he's in addition to Tapsoba, then it's a fantastic signing. Jury's out.

Certainly seems a big prospect and would be a considerable step up from our current options, so I'd be more than happy with his signing. Does seem like Tapsoba is the more polished and battle ready of the two though, so I hope the option to sign both is on the table if we shift enough players out.

Has John Cross ever called one of our transfers before? I don't seem to recall one.

I know the dutch journalist is very good, remember him from prior transfers from holland/Ajax.

AMSTERDAM - Tottenham Hotspur appear to trump Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the battle for Micky van de Ven (22). The Londoners reached a verbal agreement with the VfL Wolfsburg defender on a contract until the summer of 2028, sources around the Premier League club report.

Van de Ven, who played with the Dutch national team at the European Under-21 Championship last week and has yet to undergo the medical in London, has the clubs to choose from after his good season in the Bundesliga, but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy proved to be by far the most decisive. At the Premier League club, the Dutchman will earn a multiple of his VfL Wolfsburg.

But first the clubs still need to reach an agreement. VfL Wolfsburg wants a fee of around 40 million euros for the contract of the 1.93-metre tall defender, who was brought to the German club in the summer of 2021 by then coach Mark van Bommel, which runs until the summer of 2027. The final transfer fee is expected to be around €35 million.

That would be great news for FC Volendam, who collected 3.5 million euros when Van de Ven was sold in 2021 and negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on percentage.

I take that as whats going on? keep an eye on this shit
I said in the ITK thread this morning that we would see developments very soon and low and behold.

It's not done and we are still in talks for Tapsoba but it's a big step in the right direction.

We know we need a CB in before we fly out.
