But we need the players in there. Years of under investment have got us to the point where it’s a necessity. We can afford it too. Sure we need to offload a couple but they’ll soon go when they realise they won’t get to play.

Will be great to get a CB in so early, but we really need a clear out. Would love to see another first team player like Tapsoba added, looks like Lenglet might come in for free or next to free and then move on Sanchez and Tanganga. Doubt Dier survives a cull either, as would mean a new contract, Not sure Davies survives either, as wrong age profile now.

A starting two out of a trio of Romero/Tapsoba/VdV would be a major upgrade, with whoever doesn't start and Lenglet as back up.

But we need to and we need to start acting like the big club we are. Financially we are right up there, we have been prudent for the most part, but we badly need investment in upgrading our CB's and have needed this for 3/4 windows now.

For sure. Definitely the defensive blocks of opponents are gonna be a lot higher and more aggressive than 90% of opponents he faced with Celtic though. More pressure on the ball, less time to think for defenders. It’s where I feel Tapsoba’s calm under pressure would be a great asset, and a difference maker for me. Tbf though none of us know how Ange will set up, even if most of us have a broad idea. I’m 100% trusting all the moves we make because on the surface they make sense for an Ange team, van de Ven included.

I'm not sure this guy is experienced enough to come straight in and do a job in the PL. It is a big ask for him.

I know what you are saying though. With all the ones at the club bar Romero probably up for sale. Some need to go ASAP. Maybe being left behind of tour will help them focus the minds to fuck off!?!?

If we're going to miss out on one of them, I'd rather we got Tapsoba nailed down. I'll be very surprised if we get both, and I think we'd certainly have to sell a few (from Dier, Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga, maybe Davies)before the second one came in.

Everyone knows we needed to buy two Central defenders so if we can buy them both now that's a better option than one now and one next year, usually it's hard to get two quality CB’s in one go, or even one sometimes, it's uncommon which is why people may be finding it hard to believe we'll do both. What's the point of only buying one when you need two and you'll have to buy the other one eventually anyway?
This is good both ways, good that we may get him and good that it strengthens our hand with the Tapsoba negotiations.

I’ve become pessimistic and am going straight the the conclusion that we will end up with MvdV and Lenglet because Tapsoba was deemed too pricey.

I think I prefer Van de Ven we dont have a lot of pace in the back line and we would def get that with him

Yeah I said the same earlier. It’s one reason why I think he won’t be the only one coming in.
