We've got to stop worrying about things like this. We need quality back ups and tbf I wouldnt even want back ups...I want to see people trying to push each other out of that 1st 11. That is how you build success and competition. Let Tapsoba and VDV compete and when we are back in Europe we can rotate more.

Fair enough, was just thinking about it. I agree by the way. Hopefully we can convince both of them to join

If the lad is in the country and being looked after by our player liaison officer (as per the airport ITK), then the fee negotiation must be down to the finer details, and all parties expect it to be completed.

I’d prefer Tapsoba (assuming we can’t/won’t get both) for a bit more experience but Van Der Ven looks like a terrific talent. Definite shades of Vertonghen.

I’m probably in a minority that would be just as pleased with this guy as Tapsoba. For me he passes the eye test a bit more, he looks quicker on his feet when jockeying and better balanced as well as looking quicker. Can’t really ignore Tapsoba’s stats though, pretty elite

Can someone map out the ball movement and the recovery run by VDV that was so impressive? You know the one i'm talking about. The Ven diagram.

Apparently someone saw the player liaison pick him up at Stansted today
Ah! Roberto Balbontin. Who was pictured with our new keeper at airport last week. Means - generally - that it’s done 🫶🏼

Am i wrong to be worried by this one? He's young and only has a couple of seasons at this level.
I’d be happy with it if he was the ‘second’ CB we were bringing and we knew that there was another ready made defender coming in too.

it’s just the fact we know we need to strengthen drastically in this area - it’s not really a slight on Micky.

He looks very good in the little I have seen of him anyway. Tall, strong and very quick so physically an absolute beast plus his passing seems decent. There is a lot to like and at only 22 years old he could be our main stay in defence for a decade or more if this works out.

He’s just significantly worse than Tapsoba currently so it feels underwhelming, particularly if he is the main CB signing.

It basically means while our defence may improve next season, it won’t improve significantly because VdV is very raw and will make a lot of mistakes. Just as importantly he’s nowhere near as composed, good on the ball or at passing as Tapsoba.

Signing him along with Tapsoba would have had me absolutely buzzing.

As it stands if we just bring in VdV, he’s a good talent, a lot of potential but it means our defence won’t be elevated like it would have been if we signed Tapsoba.

We have saved loads of money by getting Vicario and Solomon cheap. We should be able to go big on CBs.

For that reason I can’t help but be a little disappointed.

Of the CB quandary, I’m not going to stress that van de Ven is being sorted first.
I actually think the club are relatively in control this window, and honestly after this one, I really think outs have to be prioritised a bit.

It is still possible we sign both.

Also in the back of my mind, I remember reading that Romero wasnt happy and would need a lot of reassurances this season. I wouldnt be surprised if he leaves in the next 2 seasons so signing both VDV and Tapsoba now would mean we would already be set if that ever happens.

I’m a bit confused as to why folk think we wouldn’t go for both him and Tapsoba.

At CB we need two new players, to go along with Romero. The rest of them (Dier, Sánchez, Davies, Tanganga) are nowhere near good enough to play for Spurs and we have criminally neglected properly addressing this since Toby and Jan both left.

If it means £50m + £30m just on the CBs then so be it. It’s absolutely necessary.

Otherwise, we get an injury and what? We have Sánchez or Dier back in the team? Fuck that

Maybe I'm wrong but looks like he's better in the air than Tapsoba and his defending style makes him better partner to Romero
