This part. He needs to get up field a bit more to link with eriksen and the interchanging front 4

I think that will come after he has cemented a place in the team. According to those who goes to our junior games, they constantly said he was good at the attacking side of the game. He is already displaying some masterful passes and has had a couple of good shots at goal last week.

Bentaleb is not an attacking midfielder,he is a CM who plays better moving forward than going backwards.
If Pochettino is a good manager than he should be able to see exactly where on the field these players are best suited and change his formations accordingly.
To be honest,I am not fond of managers who adhere strictly to one formation, their teams tend to be one dimensional.

I could be wrong but I always thought benteleb was the most attacking cm in the u21s set up? But since he has been in the 1st team he's more a DLP. Not sure if the coaches see him moving higher up the pitch in the future ie if MS or anyone else in the deeper role with a better passing range comes in or this is his new position now, probably the latter IMO

A
From what I've seen from both in a spurs shirt so far, I would say yes he is
agreed ;) I think his a really good player who gets to much crap we should be so greatfull we have un earthed gems such as Bentalab, Kane, Townsend, Milo's, hopefully mason with more players on the way they are pushing to start games and are a hell of a lot more greatfull and cheaper on wages and signing fees.

And before anyone says anything about Townsend his free and might make mistakes but has talent and we have supposedly had bids of 10 mil for him.

We have far to many squad players who offer very little who are holding back youth players, if we want to succeed as a club we need to buy the odd star and bring though our young players we do not have the money to keep buying average players for 17 million.

I wouldn't have thought this a month ago, but the way Bentaleb is progressing makes me not bothered so much by Schneiderlin not coming. Very similar players and if Bentaleb keeps pushing on he'll be at Schneiderlin's level soon enough. Small sample size and all, but I'm very pleased with how the young players like Rose, Kane, Dier and Bentaleb have looked so far under Pochettino. They've arguably been our best players!

DM no chance, I like young Bentaleb and I see him as a rock in CM in future years.
Swansea was the only game he did well as a DM the other games he looked out of his depth.
He looks more like a Modric type.
Only time will tell of course

I agree at DM but the original post said better cm. difficult to compare as both different types of midfielders

You're essentially right. Iirc the midfield 3 would be one of

-------Veljkovic---Carroll--------
-------------Bentaleb----------

or

------------Veljkovic---------
------Bentaleb----Carroll-------

I think it is a fair argument to say Bentaleb is arguably on form our best CM atm. And 2 managers seem to think so. When Sherwood was here I thought while he looked like he needed a rest he was our best performing CM and he seems to be now as well.

In the season we made the final, once the main players were back, he was the DM next to carroll.

I think his future will be a deeper CM due to the talent we have at AM and talent coming through

Have to admit that I do tend to judge him as if he's in his mid 20's. That actually says a lot about how good he is at such a young age.

Why does he play every game, ball watches and cannot protect the back 4 fact! We play with 10 men alot of time when he plays non existent. If he plays further forward maybe but we have much better players that can do that. I admit hes a good prospect and has potential to develop, and we can make decent cash out of him, i understand the clubs position on that too, but he is not good enough to walk into the first team for PL games! Give him more of a chance in league cup n el games but again not to protect back 4 as he cant!

Dim was an above average DM and Poch was an international defender; and if both thought playing him as a DM while he showed promise in our junior ranks as a creative midfielder, he must have some qualities that are not easily discernable to the average fan.

I think he moves the ball quicker than most (if not all) of our CM's and with purpose, he can split the lines with his passes not just go side to side.

He still has some way to go with his off the ball work but on the ball don't think he's inferior to any of our CM's.

bentaleb was the one who layed the forward pass to kane before he released dier for the goal. assist the assist as we fans like to say on here. I may not trust sherwood but if poch values the boy as a 1st team player I am backing him all the waym certainly can't do any worse than a off form paulinho at the mo.

I did a bit of research & found that Bentaleb is the player that most resembles Schneiderlin in our squad, so it's no surprise to me that Poch's started him twice.

Awesome talent. Hard to believe he's only 19 years old. Sherwood definitely deserves a lot of credit for bringing him into the first team fold. Him and Capoue look good as a double pivot.

Bentaleb when he plays quickly, get his head up, and passes forward is a force. I think Poch yelled at Nabil a few times today for the ponderous backwards passing, which means I know it's something Bentaleb is working on. When Bentaleb adds that aspect to his game he is going to be something special.

I have come to admit I was wrong about Bentaleb. I think he still has a lot of learning and developing to do but whereas previously I didn't believe he had what is needed to make it at the top I have changed my tune. Well done, son.
