Why do you make the mistake of assuming that everyone criticising him is doing it after one game

People are pointing out that they don't think he's that good watching him since he first stepped in under Sherwood. Frankly if anything is embarrassing it's your attempt to imply that the criticism is some knee jerk on one game

I am not assuming anything , firstly I am not going to memorise who has been sayin he isn't good enough from the start to the bandwagon people. All I see is that after a bad game by nabil his thread goes nuts and lots of negative comments about him . If everyone who said something negative about him thought he was shit from the start and last season then fair enough I stand corrected but somehow I doubt it .
Secondly I also hate the whole knee jerk stereotype that people band about in this forum , if someone says something negative about one of our players its knee jerk and everyone needs to get a grip. So I'm with you on that one :)

Simply responding in kind to your assumption that I don't really know anything about football and the implication that because you have a different opinion on a player you do

You have a different opinion that's fine, trying to imply that someone who doesn't doesn't know what they are talking about is really rather childish
What's that got to do with rugby?

Well, this thread got intense and crazy pretty fast.

It does seem to me that maybe there's a touch of complacency to his recent form and mistakes. And you know what, it's a GOOD thing that he's been punished for those errors as he has: He's had a pretty meteoric rise thus far, and with that new contract and little competition, there must be the temptation to rest on your laurels and 'coast' a bit.

Now though? Hey, he's fallible again. Still a young player with a lot to learn after all. Let's hope he reacts by turning his noted work ethic to improving his game and stamping out his sloppy errors. Because Poch has already fired a shot across the bows by hooking him yesterday. Could be a good kick up the arse.

ok to all the defenders of Bentaleb, I will ask one more question

if he was put on the transfer market tomorrow who is the best team you think would come in for him?

i'd say possibly Everton

definitely Villa

look forwards to the answers and reasons on who he would replace, and i'll be shocked with some responses for sure

Weren't the dippers meant to be interested? I remember reading a link or 2 before he signed his new deal.

I wouldn't be shocked if Jose put in a bid. If we put him up for sale.

Seriously what does he bring to the table, he's got no great creativity, he's not a good defender, he slows play down, sure he runs around a lot but what is he good at?

I think this is a valid question, Barry. There are plenty of fans who who are adamantly defending him, but I haven't necessarily seen anyone point out why exactly that is. Other than the fact that he's young and is from the academy, no one has really pointed what it is that they feel sets him apart.

I'm not as down as him as you are (nor was I about Huddlestone ;)), but I see your point. I think he moves the ball from the back fairly well and can put in a tackle when needed, but I haven't yet seen him consistently put in well-rounded, quality games for us. He has a tendency to turn the ball over in really bad spots - I'm not just referring to those passes yesterday, but rather a problem he seems to have overall - and that's quite worrying. He needs to cut that out of his game if he's going to continue to at a big role with us.

I'm like the doctor who has a patient come in and so he asks what's the problem

With great difficulty the patient manages to get across the fact that he can't pronounce his f's and his th's

So the doctor says "Well you can't say fairer than that then" ;)

Henderson? Fuck off.

You're being far to simplistic. Not all signings are made for the short term. A lot of players are signed based on potential. I don't think Bentaleb would replace Matic or Fabregas yet but they're both in their late 20s and Jose might have his eye on 2-3 years down the line.

So might Wenger, in fact, I'd like to think if we were desperate to sell that a lot of the top clubs would at lest make enquiries

One of the people on Barcelona's transfer committee had Bentaleb on his list.

Edit- Allegedly.

You mean a sports journo implied that he did, probably at the behest of his agent when he was trying to get a new contract. Barca are my local team and there's been no mention here of any interest
The trouble with all these rumours is that no one can ever be sure how much is just made up. You only have to look at the players we are supposedly interested in every window to know that loads of those rumours have zero credibility

It was in an article in 'Sport', which I think is one of the main newspapers in Barcelona.

you mean Henderson that got 6 goals and 9 assist last season for a team below us in the league.

he might replace those players in 3-4 years, so perhaps he should be playing for us in 3-4 yrs time. he doesn't bring enough to the team,

football is about scoring goals, he doesn't score, doesn't assist enough, isn't strong enough to cover our defence, and his passing wouldn't get him in the gooners youth team

The kid's obviously got talent but I'm getting the feeling his long term future won't be at Tottenham, which I won't be too upset about personally. Players like Kane and Mason really earned their first major contracts - something that sets a footballer up for life - and had to go through lots of different loans, some of which didn't work out very well, and had to wait for their chance to prove themselves, and they must have lived with the real possibility that they would be amongst those weren't going to make it, so appreciate it that much more now they have, and they never once gobbed off in the press, moaning about not getting a big contract, claiming that bigger clubs were interested in him. You never really recover from that in my opinion. Like Sterling, he showed himself to be a bit of cvnt, and if he were to have a really stella season, all that would happen would be that he would start gobbing off again, demanding a new contract, angling for a move to Chelsea's subs bench, so personally I'd rather see someone like Alli succeed in his place.

Football is a team game, he's a great team player.

He played a holding role for much of last season so I don't know why you're using goals as a measure of whether he's successful or not.

You don't rate him, fine, but I'd suggest you'd at least let him complete his second full season and see how he fares, even then he'll only be 21 FFS

if he is gonna be a main stay in the team, i'll have to hope i'm very wrong, and hope he turns out to be a star.

I would, as it would mean that Jose is under the heavy influence of drugs :D
