I thought he did? Didn't he play in the opening few games?
He did though he had an injury in pre-season & didn't get a proper preparation for the season, same as Son didn't really have a proper pre-season at Leverkrusen.. One of the things I'm glad Pochettino doesn't rush players back from injury.. I'm convinced if Pochettino was in charge we would of got another season or two out of Ledley & Sandro might still be a Spurs player ( I know he sold him) but both of them were straight into the starting line-up as soon as they could kick a ball.. Rodgers made the same mistake with Sturridge.. players with there injuries need to be eased back in just like what Tuchel has done with Bender

I thought I read that at youth level he scored fairly often from a more advanced role compared to where he plays now, can anyone confirm/deny?

Yes it's true
No, it's not true. In 1 season, he scored 4 in 14 games for the U21, in another it was 1 in 10. From memory, I think it was a 2 in 10 ration (or there abouts) for the U18s. In the Nextgen tournament he scored 1 goal in 8 games.

Oh noes, Bentaleb (who captained the side), Winks and Onomah are all bad eggs and we're selling them. Oh the humanity.

It's probably not an opportunity for them to build match fitness before we're going into a busy and crucial phase of our season, where they probably will be needed with the first team, and wont have the opportunity to play U21 games.

So we'll have to sell them in the summer. Maybe we can get Mark Noble in to replace them?

Genuinely think he might be finished at Tottenham after not making tonight's match squad. Get the feeling that he has got a LOT to do to earn back Pochettino's trust, and not sure that he has the willingness to do it. Would love to be wrong, fwiw.

I am going to get killed for this but let's get as much as we can for him. I am not being reactionary. One can look at my historical take on Bentaleb and I just don't see it. I also don't like his body language for what that is worth.

Anywho, if the exit door is his next step, I wish him the best but if we keep him I hope he can prove me wrong.

Hartyidon COYS re: Bentaleb

He has a big entourage of agents and the protracted contract negotiations last season pissed off a lot of people at the club. His demands increased consistently as the season progressed and by June last year he was asking huge money and talking in the papers about how "tired" he was of the process and how "flattered" he was by all the interest he claimed he was receiving from Champions League clubs. Unsurprisingly this was mainly bluster and there was nothing concrete for him to use as leverage so in the end he backed down and signed a still very good contract with a big pay increase.

Then after his injury he came back and was annoyed not to be in the first team. There was a lot of noise from his "people" and his attitude was suspect in training. He was given some game time and it was felt his concentration and commitment was lacking. He wasn't committing to Poch's vision and high standards.

In the Jan window there was an attempt to drum up interest away from the club by his representatives with people claiming to be his "agent" giving interviews to European media outlets about his future being uncertain.

Poch said in a press conference that Nabil will have his chance if he works hard in training and proves himself. But right now he has fallen back in the pecking order. Mason has fought back in, Carroll has fought his way in, there is plenty of opportunity but he has to give 100%.

I don't like the idea that he has a problematic entourage and/or lacks commitment to earn his spot...

but I do (did) like him, so let's not write him off just yet. we have seen players get "knocked" out of the line up and work their way in, so there are clearly opportunities -- chadli, son, mason, carroll, etc...

c'mon Nabil, man up an win a spot back if you want to play for Spurs (y):watching::mask:

don't let adebayoritis take hold and rot you from the inside out :greedy::coffee::snaphappy:

I feel he is getting really bad career advice from his so called friends/agents, as he has a genuine affection for the club, hope he regains himself and begins to just focus on his football again.

The other thing that he has going against him is our ridiculous depth in the central midfield slots. IF he is suffering an attitude problem and he successfully clears the hurdle of turning that around, then he still has the problem that our squad is chock full of central midfielders who are all also playing well and fighting for the team so he'd have to surpass them on the training ground too. Not an easy task, I reckon.

Was obviously an attitude issue.

He should know there is no entitlement here now.

Suck it up, Nabil. Time to mature.

Nabil is lucky because he is very versatile and has potential to play in multiple positions (L/RWf, LB, DM and even LCB in an emergency).

He's the type of player poch loves specifically because of that.

He's an idiot for not knuckling down and giving 100% to claim a spot (like everyone else is!).

He could be a key player for us in the coming months/years.

He has to get the adoration and privilege he receives from his national team and fans out of his head.

It's blurring the lines for him and poch has lines that are crystal clear.

Playing pretty much a full season last year (in a lesser side) might've lead to some complacency?

Anyone with half a brain would realise they need to knuckle down & try to prove themselves above their peers.

If not, he can't have any complaints about not being picked for such a successful squad, at the moment. We're winning, as things stand we're doing fine without him. Up to him to join the party
