No coincidence that we bring him on and lose repeatedly, it’s like playing with 10 men.

That being said our attackers need to do a lot more.
We didn't lose yesterday because of Skipp and just 4 days earlier he had an important role in making comeback against City lol

We didn't lose yesterday because of Skipp but he's a clear example of the massive drop off between our first team squad and the backup players. I think he found his level with Norwich to be honest. Good engine and seemingly a proper Spurs lad but that's all the plus points I can really see for him.

I thought we lost because we started with two defensive midfielders, playing against a low. block. It's akin to riding a motor bike with not one but two ashtrays.

Wasn’t his fault but he just doesn’t have the speed of thought for this type of football.

Even last week in his contribution for the goal he got a bit lucky

Yeah I love his passion but the drop off is huge when he comes on. He's not going to make it here

I thought he was alright when he came on yesterday, at doing what he does, he's just not the sort of player that's going to change a game.
I'd probably start him ahead of Hojbjerg though because PEH clearly has no future here.
It was a bit of an odd sub to make but then we don't have many options currently and Ange is still trying to find out what the fringe players can offer during a game.

I thought we were brilliant in the first half, apart from not scoring enough goals to get clear.
The trouble is, that high energy play with a limited squad means that changes lead to quite a drop in quality.

He has the passing range of a six year old but with less ambition. Most of us on here can probably pass the ball 10 yards backwards or sideways. He's more bald than bold.

That's why I said he was good at doing what he does, breaking up play and keeping it simple. Pass and move.
I don't watch him and expect him to be pinging balls around like Pirlo but he's not as bad as passing as you suggest.

Is this the Harry Winks thread?

Why everyone screams out for academy players to be played is beyond me. You all hate them once the shiny new toy effect wears off unless they are world class in their position before they turn 23.

Yep, and that's why I'm not too upset that Donley isn't getting minutes yet because it would only take one poor game for some in here to be claiming "he's Sunday league level".

I think some set unrealistically high hopes for our academy products, often making them into something that they really aren't in their own minds.
Then, when said player fails to reach these ridiculous standards, they are instantly "shit".

It's like how Deki has gone from "amazing", to "not good enough" in less than a week.
There's no understanding of players strengths, weaknesses, or even how the opposition set up may affect their game.

To be fair he's had a few seasons now so should be showing more progress. Sarr has overtaken him in only his 2nd. He's a good pro but similar to Mason when Poch took over will need to be replaced. In the meantime he will do a job when called on. It's very rare an academy player makes it at this level. King and Kane have been the only ones really in the last 25 years.

Id throw Townsend in there too.

Skippy has seemingly regressed. He showed so much upside 2 years ago. But looks worse now. Especially something about this system has him confused as you can see he’s overthinking.

If we can bring in some CM depth in January, he needs a loan to a PL club like Luton. Somewhere he may start regularly. If he does well, it would help increase his value… as no doubt he will be sold in the summer.

Skipp is a good player, but not good enough for team challenging at the top and especially not for what postecoglu requires from his midfielders.

He has limited technique but a good engine, reads the game excellently and follows instructions. He needs consistent minutes and to feel the rhythm of the game and then you will see him make excellent interceptions, blocks, intelligent passes and movements etc that most Premier midfielders cannot.

This is it for me. Hes not a bad player but we are trying to establish ourselves as persistent title challengers in a system that doesnt suit his skill set so well.

The constant "not good enough" etc posts get a bit tiresome but theyre not necessarily wrong unfortunately, as others have said comparing to Sarrs impact being 2 years younger and having been part of our setup for a much shorter period of time.

If i were him id be looking to do what winks has done becoming a solid starter in Leicesters setup (not necassrily dropping a division mind) rather than picking up scrap minutes at spurs, but do it much sooner than winks did.

He has looked poor at times, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Ange snd the coaches can improve him enough to be a useful squad player. He’d got the right attitude which goes a long way eith Ange plus our shortage of club trained would give extra motivation for them to want to make it work
