Emerson might do us a favour. Sure, it means the right side is more limited in its passing/runs but defensively it might help to have someone a little deeper than usual to help out our CBs and stop them being left completely on an island against a dangerous attack.

Frankly, our midfield needs to stop itself being smacked around by Rice and co. before we worry about that. They've been 'suboptimal' for a few games now. Maybe the tank is simply empty at this stage.
I’d go further and include Davies in the back 4 for the remainder of the season. We cannot fall out off the top 6, and we have four out of six games we will need to be defensively very strong for. Based on recent defensive performances, we’ve been next level dreadful. Be it brain farts on counter attacks or being far to easy to pick apart with set pieces. I get Ange is focused on the players who are in his long term plans, but with 6 games left, and a very small chance of finishing in the top 4, perhaps now is the time to be a bit more pragmatic. We’ve become far too predictable, and his style of play requires mistake free football. Which is impossible with this squad. We make about six or seven mistakes per game. We also rarely match the intensity of our opponents. That is another reason why I would prefer Davies and Royal in the short term, as they play with a lot more grit. Same applies to PEH. And if Richy is back, that would be hugely helpful for the run in. We need players out there who are willing to play out of their skin. Sadly, quite a few have gone missing recently. That cannot continue.

Well that Ben Davies opinion was prophetic.
