Outstanding yet again against Villa. He’s been the biggest surprise this season: last year I thought he was good going forward but couldn’t defend. Delighted to have proved once again that I know very little about football.

Thought this thread would be given more love after yesterday. An absolute stalwart defensively and going forward was one of our primary progressive passers, some of his linkup with kulusevski was incredible to watch

It makes such a difference having a defender who is technically and mentally on the level of midfielders. Gives us a very reliable option in possession and another credible threat already adding to our versatility of attacking approach.

Throw Vicario and VDV into the coversation as well, even though the latter has missed a fair chunk.
Isn’t it nice to be in a position whereby there are so many players we could make an argument for?
I was going to say UDog needs to be up for young player but then I keep forgetting just how young our team actually is!

Overall a fantastic season but one of the players who I felt failed to show up last night; his shooting was very poor

And there we all were complaining that no-one was taking a shot and we were all trying to walk it into the net.

I think his from has dropped off for a few weeks now - not the levels he was at earlier in the season.

I was thinking just before the goal that he'd fallen off - he was arguably our best player in the first half of the season but he's been nowhere near as good recently. Great finish though.

If Porro is out for NLD, could we see Dragusin at RB?

Also Arsenal have scored most set pieces this season

I think it would be Emerson, as there's no way Dragusin can play situated further up the pitch. Unless there's a change of tactics, but even then you'd wonder if he'd be best suited to deal with the pace of Martinelli.

That's not a bad shout actually, Emerson can't pass under pressure so he will struggle against Arsneal tbh, going to be an issue if Porro is out.

Emerson might do us a favour. Sure, it means the right side is more limited in its passing/runs but defensively it might help to have someone a little deeper than usual to help out our CBs and stop them being left completely on an island against a dangerous attack.

Frankly, our midfield needs to stop itself being smacked around by Rice and co. before we worry about that. They've been 'suboptimal' for a few games now. Maybe the tank is simply empty at this stage.
