This deal wont get away its if we take this option we are in discussion's. The feeling is if it does happen it won't be untill later in the window due to moving parts in 2 positions.
To be honest i don't expect it to happen and especially not confident the longer we leave it, unless Sporting have a replacement lined up those late January deals rarely materialise for starting players.

whilst it’s good we’re in for him, I don’t see why it has ti be later in the window. It’s one of the biggest problem areas in our squad, along with a creative cm & a cb (cb we know is summer) so why not just pay the going rate, before we get gazumped & are left with fucking Emerson!

thanks for the info though mate.

he has a release clause mate and we have 3 RB maybe one could go there on loan ;)

we have 3 players currently in that position due to poor recruitment one has to leave first and this slows down the process.

I guess how much we spend on an AM could also effect this if we have to pay the release for Porro. Hopefully someone will take Royal as he really has no place here.

I doubt this will be a popular opinion, but if we’re not going to play Spence, I’d send him out there on loan and let them keep Edwards until the summer - would be good if they can get some consistent playing time together and see what happens regarding who’s in charge in the summer…

Yeah bit of an odd one.

I suppose he has personally seen Edwards rip us apart in the CL twice which might make him slightly more amenable to the deal than he would be otherwise for a small, dribbly wide player from the Portuguese league.

I still have nightmares about that Edwards run where he went around about 7 players and so very nearly scored....
I think he just went around Dier 7 times

Edwards would be an exciting player much like Gil. I just hope we still look to sign a creative type as these runners are more ideal for Son competition than Kulusevski.

Sell before we buy, lessons learned, deadline day deal, goalposts moved, couldn't quite get it over the line, rinse and repeat, etc etc

At least the goalposts can't move with this one. Theres a set fee and we ether pay it or don't. Nothing Levy can hide behind here.

We have a tough scheadule ahead of us, saving couple of millions won't be worth if we lose a CL place and tens of millions. But even with a release clause you still have to negotiate a contract, agent fees etc. We shouldn't wait for Royal to be sold though.

I don’t get why we haven’t already paid the clause if it’s obvious Sporting won’t accept anything less. We could have had him in 1st of January and got him in the side ready for the biggest NLD in recent memory, where a win could be a turning point in our season and absolutely derail their title charge. If we were looking at things from purely a football perspective this deal would already be done

Send Emerson to Sporting on loan with obligation to buy, send Spence on loan to a prem club and have Porro and Doherty as our RWB options. That would be ideal.

That could never be Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer market, we need to go through the stages... Monitoring, considering, Targeting, approaching, considering to target an approach about tabling a potential offer.

I don't think anyone said anything about players being 'sold'? More just getting them out the club. It's just not got for moral to have 4 rwb at the club when 1-2 know they won't be playing.

Besides it's very rare players come in and hit the ground running immediately anyway. Chances are Doherty would still play for a few matches even if Porro was signed today. I really don't see the as a huge issue to wait a couple of weeks. At least we know we're actively trying to get the deal done.

Wow, if we could get Royal to go there on loan that would be ideal. Royal being Brazilian speaks Portuguese so should slot into Sporting pretty easily.

True, but 2 new players in January literally saved us the season last year and got us CL. Plus can't do worse than Royal anyway and would at least offer something from the bench most likely. Or he would get more time to learn the system even if he played badly at first. One month is a lot of time in football.

I’d also add that sending Royal on loan to another team that plays a wingback system is the best way to end up with him back at the club in the summer. He needs to go to a club that play a back 4 and move on with his career in the position he is suited to
