Is there an agreed level that people should have played football to, for them to know what they're talking about?

I really hate this view of "well, you've never played the sport so you don't know what you're talking about", it's ignorant and arrogant bollocks.
I like boxing, mma and cricket too but I've never "played" any of them - Does that mean that I don't know what I'm talking about with regards to those sports?
I have played American Football though and I still don't understand anything about that sport.

You really don't need to have played a sport to be able to study and understand it and comments such as yours just come across as piffle to shut other people down that don't agree with you.
Very well put. Martin Keown won three league titles, three FA cups and a European Cup-winners cup, yet he never seems to be watching the same sport as everyone else.

The surprising thing is he's not called up to the national squad for some time.... Right? Are the Spanish RBs so strong that he couldn't even make up the numbers?

He slipped leading the opposition to score in the new managers 2nd game (and Porro's first under the new manager) and he hasn't been called up since.
They start Carvajal and have used either 37 year old Navas and 34 year old Azpilicueta as back up.

Exactly. We were very vulnerable on the far post in the pre season and much less so as of recent. Porro is still learning his craft and you would expect him to make the occasional mistake.

We were always very vulnerable at the back post with Kyle Walker but he's routinely lauded as the best RB we've ever had.

I was a fan as his back tracking and attacking ability was great relatively speaking. His defending was good but he also chose to make passes across the back or to the keeper that were less than strategic every 3 or 4 games or so that turned into a dangerous counterattack. He was good but he improved quite a bit under Pep or Pep was better at playing to his strengths.

Hardly the most pressing issue today, but Porro's positioning in that first 25 minutes was absolutely disastrous and a big reason for that change in pressure after Chelsea's terrible start.. I'm a huge fan, but I'm worried.

I thought he was very good today. Put in a great shift defensively and was dangerous from set pieces. He's not a defensive defender, isn't used as one, and shouldn't be judged as one.

I thought he was pretty good today and seemed to be everywhere. Great engine, good link up play - just wish he'd get into shooting situations a bit more often as he can definitely hit them.

Disagree, he was a fuckwit first half, one of the main issues of some fucking how letting them into the game. That disallowed goal from sterling where he tried to marshall back to vicario,, idiot. Row z, you're a defender.

Not sure if you've noticed, but we don't tend to do a great deal of "row Z" any more.

It's all good, onions and that but it's early in the Ange reign and I think he's definitely an Ange style player - good feet, good technique, good awareness, links well with others.

I agree, but there are times you defend first. Got away with one.

Tbf he stepped up when we lost players but I do agree he made a few mistakes. That awful pass straight to sterling he miss hit gave them a big chance for Jackson when we were dominating
