We are about to spend up to 40M plus on a player and are going to let him play in a Cup final.. Laughable
More laughable than spending 60m on a player and waiting for him to join in the summer?

Or 80m and waiting for them to join a year later?

I think if we really want this kid and believe he will be a top RB then its worth it to take a risk on 1 game.

Why is it laughable? Porro wants to play in a cup final, jeopardising a very lucrative move because he wants to help his team win a trophy. To me, that’s not laughable, but laudable. And we can hardly stop him as he ain’t our player (yet ?).

Yeah but if the player wants to have that moment to thank his team mates, club and fans, we cant really begrudge it.
Like, one final send off and one last hoorah, I guess he feels like he owes them that and I kinda like that mindset and loyalty.

I think it's laughable because had we offered what we are paying now at the start of the window the cup final would not have been thought of.

Beggars belief to me that somehow the club are getting blamed on this one when any rational reading of the situation is that it's Sporting dragging it out regardless, nor is it the first time a situation like this has occurred.

Sounds like it's done in any case bar a gazumping, but I'm not sure how a couple of days makes too much difference in that regard given that if were signing him today Chelsea could just as easily fuck it up for us as much as if it were Monday anyway if they were minded to do so.

If we had offered what we are paying now at the start of the window, a sensible negotiator for Sporting would have held out for more. And we’d probably be in the same position, but paying more. If DL were willing to pay more, which is doubtful.

We should let him try and win a trophy before he comes here, it might be his last chance.
Sorta sad, but true. I mean, you can't blame the guy for wanting to play in a final. Just the human aspect of it. Of course he wants to go out with a bang. Who wouldn't? I'm probably in the minority, but I don't really see this as embarrassing for us. Only insomuch, that it wouldn't be an issue if the deal was done in the first week of January. However, we're talking about an expensive transfer and some clubs can be notoriously difficult to deal with. So, yeah, this dragged on for far too long. At least there's a 95% chance he'll be with us by Monday.

And yeah, with it being so close to the final, you can't blame the kid for wanting to play. Wouldn't you? Think of it the other way around. Let's say this Saturday we had a league cup final, and one of our most important players like Benta, or Deki, or Kane or Son or Romero wanted to conclude their transfer to another club AFTER the final. Would you blame them? Or us for that matter, delaying the deal?

We are where we are now.

If the player and club want to delay the deal until after the Cup final then it is what it is.

What I find LAUGHABLE, is how he wasn't signed earlier in the window.

No excuse not to be here on Jan 1st.

Club had 6 weeks to negotiate this.

How do you know this wasn’t Spoorting’s stance the whole time? “You can have him once we exit out Cup run.”
