And also he has a very good shooting technique for a fullback! Hope to see more of his long range worldies going in soon!

I really think he’ll be fine in a back four. A preseason really focusing on his 1 on 1 defending and awareness and he’ll improve. As other have said, it will also make a big difference playing in a team that is on the front foot rather than expecting him to hold position and defend space.
.

I always had hope he would come good. :geek:

Tbf looking back most realised he had a quality but thought he would end playing in the front three rather than the back four.

Think our back 5 when VDV is back will surpass the back 5 under peak poch
Ooo that is a big shout, I'm not sure about that tbh, peak Lloris, Walker, Toby, Jan, Rose were phenomenal, the current best 5 could maybe get on par with them as they develop but to surpass that peak poch back 5 is almost impossible, they were so so good especially with Wanyama and Dembele in front which is why we went a whole season unbeaten at WHL as we never looked like conceding and completely dominated games.

I'd say 1 v 1 comparisons right now:

Lloris vs Vicario : Peak Lloris just edges it imo for saves but Vicario is better with his feet and is more composed and has been incredible so far so this is a very close call and Vicario might well in time surpass Hugo but right now I'd say its a draw
Verdict : Draw

Walker vs Porro : Again really tough call as Walker was faster and more physical and in his prime for us nothing got past him down that side so I'd say he's a little better than Porro defensively but going forwards Porro is incredible
Verdict : Draw

Toby vs Romero : Toby for me, so so composed, Romero is also brilliant when he's not getting sent off but for me Toby made it look so so easy
Verdict: Toby

Jan vs VDV : VDV so talented and so much potential but peak Jan was incredible especially in partnership with Toby
Verdict : Jan

Rose vs Udogie : Again like Walker, in Rose's prime he was so physical and dominated his whole flank, Udogie is playing a different role as an inverted full-back and is playing it very very well but again right now I'd say Rose might edge it or a draw at best
Verdict : Rose

Different styles of play and tactics between peak Poch and Ange's style of football and certainly the current back 5 have so much potential but now time has passed we might be underrating or forgetting just how good peak poch's back 5 were.

As its Porro thread I suppose the main conversation then would be Porro vs Walker and tbh they're different styles of player and I prefer Porro, he's so creative, unreal technique, heart of a lion, absolutely love the guy, Walker was ofc class and exciting in terms of his physicality and pace up and down the right flank over and over but as we've said above at least we now finally seem to have properly replaced Walker & Rose with players of top top level and with potential to improve move in Porro & Udogie.

Another top display from him. What was the weird issue with him when he got fouled though? He got caught and went down but Carragher suggested he was trying to get a player sent off. He then says watch when the ball goes back in he'll be ok and then knocked him even though he was still limping. Then the other commentator suggested he had to keep selling it after he committed to the act. It was a such a weird bit of commentary like they had an issue with Porro for some reason.

Was so odd.

And when they were going over all the players we would be missing for Everton, the commentator made another quip about whether Porro will be able to recover in time…

It was such an overreaction to a foul where there was contact. You see so many times players feigning injuries where there is no contact (Saka etc.) and nothing gets mentioned!
