So, it looks like Poch has decided KWP is his man for now, and then there's the proposed conversion of Foyth.

The suggestion of using Sissoko as a starting RB, as I've said before, must surely be a last resort move. Fine if he's shifting there towards the end of a game to cover an injury, or if he fills in until a sub can be made, but otherwise it's a no from me.

Strange to see the very negative posts regarding Dier playing at RB again. Sure, he's not the quickest, but no worse really than Trippier in that respect. I wouldn't be hitting the large red panic button if a line-up was announced with him at RB.

I would say dier is a more likely RB than sissoko in a back 4

How do you feel about VDV?
I'll never forget his contributions to the club, but the club should stop using him for interviews and "legends" appearances, and the fans shouldn't sing his song either. I won't support anyone that puts their hands on a woman.

Totally agree. Loved VDV but what he allegedly did is unacceptable and I can’t look at him in the same light anymore tbh

He played well last season for the most part. No silly tackling, his delivery was good and was especially underrated in Europe. Away in Dortmund he was superb then a lovely assist in the return leg at Wembley.

He has good European experience, there are a lot of games to play. We will need him.
Agree. To replace Serge, we need an already established player, not someone who has the potential anymore. Until then, Serge is the best we have and should keep.

Really hope Poch doesn't tinker at this position anymore with unnatural players there. Selling two senior RBs in a single window with no solid replacement is very near-sightedness.

Appears to be some weird thoughts going on here. Pochettino seems to prefer KWP and Foyth over Serge, anyone can have an opinion on the rights and wrongs of Pochettino’s choices. However what won’t change is his actual preference which effectively just makes Serge dead wood.

Considering we seem to be trying to trim down the dead wood in the squad (Janssen, GKN, Onomah, CCV, Wanyama and Edwards) to make room for our talented youth and future signings, I am puzzled that anyone is actually advocating Serge staying.

I’d go KWP until he needs a rest and keep Aurier to come in for him. He showed signs of improving last season when fit.

Aurier might just want to go but I get the impression he likes it at THFC and playing in London with his french speaking mates. He’s mad as a box of frogs too, which can be good for squad harmony.

Considering Aurier was injured during pre-season I'm not sure how you would know what Pochettino prefers?

And as KWP has been more than decent so far I don't see how he can drop him right away even if he did prefer Aurier. KWP is close to the only outfield player that did well against Villa and City (even if he struggled against City in the first half, but I primarily blame Pochettino and Sissoko for that).

Pochettino has dropped KWP after man of the match performances a couple of times. If he thought Serge would be starting he would pick him

Not sure if he has done it a couple of times, but he was mainly used as a back-up in the first place back then. After his 3 assists against Bournemouth Trippier was ready for Wolverhampton etc.

Kind of my point. When Aurier is ready I don't think it is a given Pochettino will prefer KWP - even if I personally hope he will (as in I think KWP will be the better player medium term compared to Aurier).

We need 2 defenders for every spot without having to move people around.

Not sure if I agree. Especially since we got 3 LBs and players like Sissoko and Dier who could fill in at RB.

That said - I hope Aurier stays one more season. I not been impressed by him at all so far, but I still think there is a player there. At his best for PSG he was very very good. So good I thought he might have been an upgrade on Walker.

What has brought about the pervasiveness of this idea?

I don't want Sissoko as a RB, but we are potentially talking about a situation where KWP and Foyth are out. Do we then need Aurier to hang around just so Sissoko or Dier won't play some games at RB? Pretty sure Davies could do OK there as well. It is not like he is offering much going forward from the left anyway.

For me Aurier shouldn't stay to offer depth. He should stay if we think he can return to his best and therefore become our 1st choice RB.

I think Sissoko played there at the end of the CL final when Trippier was taken off.
Ether way it has happened a few times and he hasn't let anyone down.
I don't think Dier has played there for quite a while

For me it’s not so cut and dried we have three left backs.

Davies can also cover left centre back in a back three (and also did this in a four last season).

Sessegnon can play as a left attacker so the three players all offer flexible options.

Going back to right back, personally I’d rather keep Aurier this season as means two recognised right backs in squad.

Walker-Peters, Foyth
Alderweireld, Tanganga
Vertonghen, Sanchez
Rose, Davies

There’s also Dier, who is more than good enough, and if he had to move back to CB we’d still have Ndombele, Sissoko, Winks and Skipp for midfield.

We’re fine with both Aurier and Wanyama leaving, I have no problem at all with their minutes going to promises young players with higher ceilings.
