People thought the same of Davinson/Toby once upon a time
This isn’t so much a put down of Dave, who I believe receives a rough ride, as it is a support of Kevin, but I don’t think Sanchez has ever had as good a run off consecutive performances as windy Wimmer did that season.

Wimmer managed to make us not realise Vertonghen was injured.

The way he was treated after that was poor.

Wimmer was legitimately brilliant when he first broke into the side. Then he reportedly came into preseason in terrible shape which infuriated Poch and his career has been in a steady decline ever since. Very strange

He only has a year left on his contract and wants to leave, which is why he should be one of the first out the door
That, plus I don't understand why some fans think there's an order to selling players.

There was a recent story about Alderweireld wanting to leave. I don't know how valid this is. But assuming it is true that he feels it is time to move on it seems sensible to sell.

But half the posts in the thread were saying we should sell Dier and Sanchez first.

I really don't understand this logic.

I think a lot of people think it’s like on fifa or FM where you transfer list a player and suddenly a move materialises. Real life just doesn’t work that way.

Could be that.

Another we hear is “why did we sell x instead of y?”

Maybe it’s because there was interest in one player but not another.

The transfer market would be so much easier if we could sell every player we want to. It’s just not reality.

Similar to when a lot of money comes into a club their expense to get a player goes up we're also in a position where we've been struggling and players have lookes poor. Its not easy selling a duffer.
Edit, Not aimed a Serge specifically just a generalization.

Think he fell into the trap of many young players who think they’ve made it: Doing very little to keep in shape in the summer. Wimmer wasnt the first & wasnt the last. He had it all in front of him but that essentially killed his career. He was in German 2nd division last year on loan from Stoke. Now back in Austria. We did very well to get good money for him

That’s fair, but who knows what the butterfly effect would’ve reaped had be not been dropped the second Vertonghen was fit again after playing so very well. You are right though, such a decline does not say great things about his mentality.

We sold him (Wimmer not Aurier) for 17m in 2017 and Stoke have never forgiven us.

Aurier on the other hand is a proven 1st team player with faults, somebody will buy him and he will have good games and be worth his fee

Absolutely no idea of the validity, but a PSV fan on twitter is claiming they’ve seen Aurier and a ‘bodyguard’ at their ground. They do need a RB as Dumfries looks set to go to Everton...

Would be a strange move for him. If he goes to Holland he must really want out!
