Was at the game saturday for the first time this season (overseas supporter) and for the first time I lost a bit of faith in Soldado :(

I sat very high up and got a great overview of the game and he spent a lot of the time hiding and standing still. The last couple of games I thought he was great in the build up play and a bit disappointed about the number of chances and goals he got. Saturday I was just disappointed in general.

He should be making moves in all 4 directions all the time if you ask me, so that the opposition defence loses him from time to time. I don't think he made one run towards the goal all game.

And it's not like he's working his ass off as our first defender either?

I was one of those who thought we had bought an amazing striker, but for now I'm on the fence...
(But I like how he celebrates when we score, and even when Bentaleb hit the post he was celebrating. Think his mindset is goos - He is a "winner"...)

As for the crowd - I don't know any songs, but I was the one singing and cheering the most in my section - Awful...

I can't disagree with any of that

I'm all for giving him time - I've made many an excuse for him

"he was poorly utilised under AVB"

"he's low on confidence"

"he needs to develop understandings with his team mates to show his best"

"he's been improving and showing signs that everything's starting to come together"

To be fair he was isolated under AVB and any striker in the world would have struggled to thrive the way we were playing (though someone with more physical presence may have been able to make things happen a bit more - but Benteke hasn't done so at Villa this season for all his physical attributes)

He has shown improvement in the last few weeks, been playing well in general and getting chances - if he'd put a couple away we'd probably all be feeling very good about him right now such are the fine margins of top level football.

But how can I or anyone really keep arguing the point? how long does a man of his experience get to develop these relationships with team mates when they train together on a daily basis?

He's 28 years old - he's a signing brought in to produce here and now, we and he lack the time to wait for him to develop into a top player he's already a top player in his prime and he needs to be producing for us like that right now.

One thing I find it hard to watch is times like in the first half against Palace where he doesn't seem to be putting in the effort. Impossible to defend him when he cuts a lazy figure waiting for things to happen rather than doing something to force them to happen.

I still have faith in him - he's clearly very talented and he's shown what he can do in recent weeks even though things haven't quite clicked and he still hasn't been scoring as he should but I can't argue with anyone who would suggest he's been disappointing because he very clearly has and he needs to show it now - not in glimpses, he needs to be producing like Negredo is at City because he's a £26m striker brought in to be a top level performer not an ok PL striker with potential.

It has to be said he arguably was the wrong type of striker for us and our needs at the time - Ade's instant success when on form shows what someone with that kind of skill set can offer us and it does make you wonder why we didn't go for someone of that mould. Negrado was available long before City signed him for example and cost a good deal less than Soldado

Hopefully the second half of the season will see him producing what we need from him - Eriksen's form should help as would Lamela if he can come into form too, failing that the likes of Lennon and Townsend need to get their head up and start looking for Soldado's runs (which he needs to keep making and no more standing around)

I'd genuinely be interested in knowing how many people who are slagging Soldado off, actually watched him in Spain.

I'd wager that it's a low amount. Anybody who's known about Soldado for more than 6 months knows his quality. If you don't, and you're judging Soldado on a relatively below par 6 months in a team which has underperformed in a new country and an unfavored system, you're a fucking idiot.

He needs a stinking, dirty tap in or two. Not one of those fast, zipped crosses he's got to stretch for, a blatant 1 yard tap in on the line. You see Negredo at City and he's got about 6 or 7 tap ins. Goals which he hasn't had to work for. Soldado's not had that yet. Need to continue playing half decent and then drill some low crosses into him. He's dropping too deep for me.

I watched him a fair few times in Spain, was never that impressed.

Having said that, I also agree with everyone saying he had shite service and we were not playing to his strengths under AVB. Though, I also said that this would happen before we bought him and that he'd struggle with AVB's "philosophy".

He has gotten some chances lately though, admittedly some of them were difficult to score but the very least I expect of him is to hit the target with his shots and trouble the keeper, and he hasn't really.

Also his lack of movement in some games have been really troubling. There was one game, don't remember which one, Lennon put the ball in twice between the keeper and the defenders (the only area Lennon could put the ball in those situations) and he didn't bother to move into that space, which every good poacher would've done and scored. In the CP game it just looked like he'd given up.

I don't doubt he is a cracking striker, but please tell me how long should we wait before he is considered a waste of money?

Wtf!!

Why would you have any interest in considering him a waste of money? Do you take some perverse masochistic pleasure in us making bad decisions as a club?

Soldado is a good striker who has had mixed performances so far for us but seems to have been performing better under TS until he got a knock.

Why in gods name are you waiting for him to fail?

Most negative post ever.

You do realise he is currently injured and has been playing through it?

I am not waiting for him to fail, I sincerely hope he starts banging in the goals.
I agree he seems to look more of a threat since Ade has been playing up top and since TS has taken over but lets be honest he is not doing it at the moment.

We have needed a 20 a season striker for some time now but early indications (and yes I know it is only half a season in) are that RS is not that person. If he has a superb second half of a season then fantastic.

But the question remains how long do we give him?

Here is an interesting question, curious to see what others think.
If another club offered us £20million for him in this window, should we sell him?
Whats the least amount we should accept.
Was Robbie Keane a flop when he went to Liverpool?
When Robbie Keane was at Liverpool he scored 5 goals in 19 league appearances.........Soldado has played 19 league games and scored 5 goals too.
Liverpool got rid of Keano asap.............should we do the same?

With all due respect, does it matter one iota what he's done in Spain?

He cost 26m and is 28. The guy needs to be doing what he was bought for. You don't have to sit and watch 20 Valencia games a season (why the fuck would anyone do that by the way?) to know that.

Of course it does. How can you be so ignorant to not think so? I do not disagree that Soldado can be doing better, but that's because I know enough about him to understand this. I also know why he's not playing as well as he should be. Something those who don't know about him pre-Spurs, don't grasp why. There are several reasons besides the generic, but truthful, new club, new country etc. We're not playing to his strengths at all.

Your last line stinks of ignorance though. I suggest you actually go back and watch him in Spain before you slag him off and make a verdict so early.

If that's the case it worries me somewhat that we would still play him and risk causing a more serious injury when we have the option to play Defoe instead or switch formations somewhat to have one of our attacking midfielders play directly off Ade

Just because opinions differ to yours doesn't make it any less valid!

He will I am sure be afforded time by Spurs and let's hope he proves himself in a Spurs shirt.
