In half a season (during which he is acclimatising to the new league, team, so isolated up front he might as well have been on another planet, etc) Soldado has one assist fewer than in Defoe's highest ever assisting season.

Needs to score more to justify the fee, but all round game and ability to create is miles ahead of Defoe.
Sorted (y)

That is why I am happy with him, okay he needs to score goals, but I believe that will come in time and when it does, people soon forget about the price tag.

24 in 19 appearances.

defoe managed only 31 in 34 appearances last year.
So Defoe has 0.91 per game.
Soldado has 1.26

Whilst out proves me wrong literally, there really is very little in it. 0.35 per game.

And the fact is, Defoe scores more goals. I'd hazard a bet he needs less chances too.

A) He's no better than Defoe at hold up or passing
B) People in here are so mental he could do zilch all season and most would still conclude he's better than our 5th highest scorer of all time.

I actually agree that his hold up play is no better than Defoe's, but his passing is certainly better, or you could say his range of passing. There's no way Defoe would have crossed that ball to Adebayor at Southampton or slipped that ball into Lennon at Old Trafford, for instance.

I dunno, his run and cross for Ade against West Ham was pretty sweet. Left foot as well.

exactly, plus, he is a human being and not a robot and may take a minute or two, like many a player before him, to get going.

for us or in general?

not really fair to judge soldado on his first few months in the prem playing i a system that didnt suit him and generally stifled our attacking prowess.

in 152 (18) appearances he has 99 goals and 18 assists from an average of 2.7 shots per game and 1 key pass since 2009.

JD - in 100 (45) appearances - 56 goals and 10 assists from an average of 2.9 shots and 0.8 key passes a game since 2009

Very true, but I don't want to sound like I have an agenda against Defoe because currently I don't even think Soldado is any better than him but him doing that did surprise me, I wouldn't put money on him doing anything like that too many more times at all.

much like you i dont want to sound like i have an agenda but you only have to look to the palace game at the much much easier chances he had to cross the ball to ade and fail3ed miserably both times.

Which was then beaten by Soldado's cross for Ade to score in the following game, after Ade played the most awful of passes out wide.

I can pick out single passes too :)

They were both good mate, I don't know why you're trying to be smart with me. I wasn't simply picking out single passes, I was just countering the view that Defoe couldn't have pulled it off. I'm not convinced he couldn't. I do think Soldado is far more aware of what is going on around him though, even if he doesn't have Defoe's ability to create something out of nothing.

I honestly have no sentiment for players at all.

If they're not doing their job then someone who can should take their place.

A striker that doesn't score is a problem.

Thank god there is a thing called form
Soldado has had no form. No run of games. Other than a couple of pub matches he's not even had a good game per say.

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong and if he ever does turn it around I'll happily eat humble pie.
But I doubt that'll happen.

That's the point. I don't think anyone would argue he's been in good form. Let's hope he comes out of this bad patch sooner rather than later

Why do you doubt it will happen?

I think the chances he's missed lately, which have been poor misses and completely unlike him, show that he is totally out of form, and that when he gets it back, he will be scoring plenty.

That's scoring plenty in addition to his all-round excellent movement, chance creation and passing, which he's already doing. Add goals to that and you have the complete striker.
